The first day of school is almost here and we're excited to start another year at Centennial! As a PTSO, we strive to make volunteering as fun and low pressure as possible. We encourage families to get involved in whatever way works best for them. Whether it's attending meetings, volunteering at the scholastic book fair, helping with evening events, volunteering in the office or classroom, or even just attending PTSO events, getting involved at your kid's school shows them that school is important to your family. It's also a great way to get to know the staff that your student sees every day!

Our first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 10 at 3 pm. Because we know that afternoons don't work for many of Centennial's families, we will follow that up with a meeting Monday, September 14 at 6:30 pm. This will be a chance to learn about what the PTSO does and what events we have planned as well as a chance to meet Andrew Collins, our new principal! We encourage families to attend one or both of these. You are always welcome to bring children to PTSO meetings and events. We all have and/or work with kids, so we're used to the interruptions that sometimes come with having them around.

We look forward to seeing everyone and getting to know our new families!

We will miss Ms. Mahoney, but we made sure she knows that she is welcome at PTSO events anytime!

At the same time, we're excited to work with Mr. Collins! We look forward to getting to know him.

A big thank you to Ms. Colleen Mahoney for her leadership over the last seven years & a warm welcome to Mr. Andrew Collins! We are lucky to have to have him!

Please call with any questions regarding enrollment, Greta is in the office on weekdays if you want to stop over!

The first day of school is about a month away! While we love summer, we're excited to see everyone back at school on September 1st!

For those of you who like to get things on the calendar early, our first PTSO meeting will be Thursday, September 10th at 3 pm. We meet at the school, typically in the media center, but we'll have more details as it gets closer. Everyone is always welcome at our meetings, including kids. We're all used to the interruptions that sometimes come with kids, so don't let that stop you from getting involved! We understand that 3 pm is not the best time for many families, so please know that coming to meetings is not the only way to be involved with the PTSO. We will share many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year and would love for every family to be involved as much or as little as they are able!

Did you know that our students get free field trips to Woodlake Nature Center? Each grade goes twice during the school year to learn about the plants and animals at the nature center. In exchange for our free field trips, Centennial runs a water station at Woodlake's half marathon. We could use your help this Saturday at our water stop. It's an early morning (6:30!), but lots of fun! As always, kids are more than welcome to come with their grown ups! You can sign up to help here:

It's hard to believe it's already the last week of the school year! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather this week so kids can enjoy their time on the playground! We're especially hoping for a dry morning on Friday so that families can join us for our promotion ceremony. This end of the year tradition takes place in the back parking lot (unless it rains, then it will have to be inside and live streamed). It begins at 9am and includes each grade singing one of the songs they have been practicing in music class! We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Our Cougar Carnival is THIS Thursday! The carnival is our favorite event and also our biggest fundraiser. We can't do it without you! We need volunteers to help make the carnival a success! Volunteers help sell game/food tickets, raffle tickets, food, and books at our BOGO book fair, as well as help with set up and clean up. Each volunteer gets 10 free tickets for games or food. If you are able to help, please sign up here:

Tickets are $1 each and this is a cash only event, besides the book fair.

We need help from family and friends to make our carnival a success! Please sign up to help us sell game tickets, raffle tickets, food and drinks and tear down/clean up at the end of the event. The Cougar Carnival is always our biggest fundraiser and helps us support the students and staff next year. The PTSO hosts events, but we also help pay for field trips, including bussing, pay for the school's media licence, provide occasional treats and prizes for students, provide meals for our staff on their long days of conferences, provide treats during staff appreciation week, and so much more! We're hoping to replace our sound system next year so that the kid's concerts sound even better and we're still saving up for an adaptive swing for the playground!

As the end of the school year draws near, we have a lot of fun things coming up! Here's some things for your calendar!

Wednesday, May 20, 5-6pm KINDERGARTEN PLAYDATE Our kindergarten families haven't had as many chances to get to know each other as other years. So, we're meeting up for a casual playdate at Christian Park. All kindergarten families are invited to come play and chat. We'll have chalk and bubbles, but feel free to bring your own toys/balls/etc.

Thursday, May 21, 4-6:30 PM will be the COUGAR CARNIVAL l! This is always our largest event as well as our biggest fundraiser. There will be games, pizza and raffles! We look forward to the carnival all year! We could still use more volunteers, so please let us know if you would like to help! We also welcome high school volunteers for this.

Friday, June 5, 9:30 AM PROMOTION CEREMONY We celebrate the last day of school and students moving up to the next level with songs performed by each grade level. Families are invited to attend, weather permitting.

We hope to see you all at one or more of these events!

What's better than getting to fling airplanes and ping pong balls across the cafeteria? The kids requested a slow motion video, so we thought we'd share it with you all! We'll have more pictures coming soon and would love to see any that you took last night!

We had a great time at our Family Engineering Night with The Works Museum last night! If you haven't checked out their museum, bring your family and check it out! It's a really fun place, just a few miles away in Bloomington. Registration is open for their summer camps now and I believe there are scholarships available if the cost is a problem for your family.

If you miss the book fair (which starts this afternoon!) or don't find what you're looking for, you can also order online! The school will still earn scholastic dollars for books if you order through our book Fair online. https://shop.scholastic.com/parent-ecommerce/parent-store.html

We also would like you to mark your calendars for a couple events that will be coming up this spring. April 28th, 6-8 PM, The Works Museum will be joining us at Centennial for an engineering night! There will be engineering projects and activities for the whole family!

Of course, our fan favorite, the Cougar Carnival will be back on May 21st! All our favorite games will be back as well as the raffle!

We'll send out more information, including volunteer opportunities, as those events get closer. We hope you all enjoy your spring break!
