Check out these resources from the Minnesota Department of Education, in preparation for the start of the 2026-27 school year!

A new school year is a time of transition for students and families — whether a student is returning for a new year or taking their first steps into their academic journey as a prekindergarten or kindergarten student. The Minnesota Department of Education has gathered some resources for families to explore in preparation for the new school year. https://education.mn.gov/MDE/fam/back/

This week, we welcomed our newest teachers to Richfield Public Schools for three days of New Teacher Orientation!

From learning about our schools and community to connecting with new colleagues, they have been busy getting ready for the year ahead. We are excited to have them join the RPS family and can't wait to see the impact they will make for our students. Welcome to Richfield Public Schools!

At Richfield Public Schools, we believe every student deserves a safe trip to and from school, whether they travel on foot, by bike, by bus or by car.

Our Safe Routes to School program is helping make active transportation safer, easier and more fun for Richfield families. In fact, during the 2024-25 school year, 20% of RPS students walked or biked to school on most days - a significant increase from just 4% in 2020!

Through education, encouragement, infrastructure improvements and partnerships with the City of Richfield, we're creating more opportunities for students to get moving, build independence and arrive at school ready to learn.

Walking or biking isn't the only way to participate. Families can try remote drop-off, carpooling, a walking school bus or a bike bus. No matter how you get to school, we're working to help every student arrive safely.

Got a busy two-year-old who is always on the move?

One of the most popular ECFE classes at Richfield Public Schools Community Education, Terrific Twos, still has openings in both class sections for the upcoming school year. Two-year-olds are bursting with energy and ready to learn. This class offers the ultimate play-based experience to channel all that wonderful curiosity! There are sections Tuesday or Wednesday mornings.

What to expect in Terrific Twos:

-Together time: Connect with your toddler through fun movement, literacy and engaging table activities.

-Parent discussion: Caregivers separate for a portion of the class to connect and discuss age-relevant parenting topics with a licensed parent educator

-Explorative play: While parents meet, children stay with a licensed early childhood teacher to explore, play and build social skills

-Active fun: We wrap up our class time in the gym or outside for large motor play

A big thank you to the Best Buy Supply Chain team for lending a hand in our schools last month! Volunteers spent the day wiping down desks and classroom furniture, then moving everything into the hallways to help prepare our buildings for summer floor cleaning. Their hard work helps ensure our classrooms are clean, refreshed and ready to welcome students and staff back this fall.

We are so grateful for your partnership and willingness to give back. Together, we are !

The Richfield High School Marching Spartans are having an incredible summer! 🎶

After moving up into a higher competitive class to compete alongside the state's top marching bands, our Marching Spartans have already performed across Minnesota, including a special appearance at Target Field before a sold-out Minnesota Twins game.

Next up: two Fourth of July parades, including their hometown performance right here in Richfield at 4 p.m. 🇺🇸

Read more about their outstanding season and see where they'll be performing next at the link on our website. Special thank you to Richfield community member Ian Lundin for these amazing photos!
