Over the weekend, I got to lead a mini workshop at the National Student Show and Conference.

The assignment: Come up with a big idea/concept statement for a leading hand sanitizer.

The challenge: Say it in five words or less.

Roddy Keitz served as the third president of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications (1959-1960).

As the creative partner in the firm Keitz & Herndon, he was a leader in animation and visual effects. Dallas natives may remember the animated series "JOT," which was produced by Keitz & Herndon. And then, there are those awesome ads for drive-in theater concessions (brought to you by Dr Pepper, naturally).

Mr. Keitz' work has inspired countless designers, illustrators, animators, and other creatives. His contributions to the Dallas creative community -- and to our industry as a whole -- will be long remembered.

Thanks again to the School of Visual Arts and Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech for creating this cross-disciplinary group hug. I hope we can work together again soon.

On Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, the School of Visual Arts (SOVA) and Pamplin College of Business hosted a copywriting workshop entitled “Write More Good” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to a group of 30 students — 15 from Pamplin and 15 from SOVA.
