What happens when adults don’t rush in? 👀
🌱

At Guidepost Montessori, we place the child at the center of everything we do. That means slowing down, observing, and trusting children to participate in meaningful tasks for themselves, even when it would be faster for an adult to step in.

Moments like changing shoes may seem small, but they provide opportunities for children to practice coordination, problem-solving, concentration, and self-care skills in a real and purposeful way.

When children are given the time, support, and space to try, they often surprise us with what they can do.
Rather than focusing on the outcome, we focus on the process. Because every attempt, every challenge, and every success helps build a child’s understanding of their own capabilities.

🌱 Want to encourage this at home?
The next time your child is putting on their shoes, resist the urge to jump in right away. Offer guidance if needed, but allow them the opportunity to work through the process themselves. You may be amazed by what they can accomplish.

What is something your child insists on doing all by themselves? Let us know below! 👇

What if children could see and touch math before solving it on paper?

In Montessori, the Golden Beads introduce children to the decimal system in a concrete, hands-on way. Rather than simply memorizing numbers, children experience quantities through materials they can hold, count, combine, and explore.

A single bead represents one. A bar represents ten. A square represents one hundred. A cube represents one thousand.

As children work with the Golden Beads, they begin to understand place value, addition, subtraction, and the relationships between numbers in a way that is meaningful and memorable. ✨

What may look like a simple math lesson is actually laying the foundation for a deep understanding of mathematical concepts that will support learning for years to come.

💛 Save this post if you’ve ever wondered how Montessori makes abstract concepts come to life.

🌱 Montessori Minute with Ms. Gwen 🌱
One of the things that makes Montessori so unique is the use of psycho-sensory motor materials—a big term for something quite simple: children learn through movement and their senses.
In Montessori, children aren’t expected to sit still and memorize information all day. They learn by touching, carrying, sorting, pouring, climbing, exploring, and engaging with the world around them.
These hands-on experiences help connect the brain and body, supporting concentration, coordination, independence, and even early academic skills. ✨
So when you see a child repeating an activity over and over or deeply focused on a hands-on task, they’re not “just playing.” They’re building important neural connections through purposeful movement and sensory experiences.
💛 Save this post for the next time you wonder why your child loves doing the same thing again and again.

Mealtime is about so much more than eating ✨

In Montessori, even our youngest children are encouraged to participate in mealtime through independence, exploration, and hands-on learning. Through baby-led weaning and child-sized tools, infants and toddlers begin developing fine motor skills, coordination, confidence, and a healthy relationship with food from the very beginning.

Rather than rushing to feed for them, we slow down, observe, and allow children the opportunity to practice doing things for themselves, even if it gets a little messy along the way.
These small everyday moments help build capable, confident children who trust their own abilities.

Save this for mealtime encouragement and follow along for more Montessori parenting and tips.

Not all infants sleep looks like a crib 🌿
In our Nido environment, infants rest on crib mattresses placed on the floor, allowing for safe freedom of movement and the early development of self-soothing sleep.

This carefully prepared Montessori infant environment supports independence from the very beginning, encouraging babies to develop natural sleep rhythms, build body awareness, and settle themselves in a calm, predictable space.

For families exploring self-soothing infant sleep, Montessori infant environments, or alternatives to traditional crib sleep, this approach offers a gentle way to support development while maintaining safety, comfort, and consistency.

If you’re looking for a place that supports your child’s independence from infancy onward, we may be the perfect fit for your family 🤍

🌱 Montessori Minute 🌱

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do as adults… is pause.

In Montessori, independence is not something we force, it’s something we nurture. Children are naturally driven to explore, try, problem-solve, and do things for themselves when given the time and space to do so.

As adults, it can be easy to step in quickly:
“Let me help.”
“Let me do it faster.”
“Let me fix it.”

But often, growth happens in the moments when we step back, observe, and trust the child’s capability.

Through purposeful environments and patient guidance, children build confidence, concentration, resilience, and a true sense of independence from the very beginning.
What may look like a small moment is actually the foundation for lifelong skills.

💛 Save this as a reminder to pause, observe, and trust the child.
