Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam and is the first month of the Islamic calendar. The Prophet (s) gave special encouragement to fast during this month.
Benefits of Fasting:
Following the Sunnah of the Prophet (s)
Seeking Allah's forgiveness and mercy
Developing taqwa (God-consciousness)
Expressing gratitude to Allah for His blessings
Beginning the Islamic year with worship and devotion

The Prophet (s) would regularly pray:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
"O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds."
