The 22-23 Desperados season has officially started! We've been working hard, growing as a team, and have a bright year ahead! WOO! 🤠

As the year comes to an end, we are extremely thankful for the team we had this year. We wish our graduating seniors the best in the next chapter of their lives. 🥳 And we’re looking forward to next years team 🤩 sprados on 3… 1, 2, 3…

The Unified Champions Event was held this week at the RHS Multipurpose Activity Center. More than 50 RISD secondary students with disabilities from the RHS learning community competed in a number of different events, coached and mentored by RHS student volunteers, and had a great time.

"It was a very special event that had a positive impact on our students with disabilities and our non-disabled students alike," RHS Principal Chris Choat said. "My heart was so full just seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids as they came to the podium when their name was called to receive a medal. What I didn’t expect was to see the same joy from our mentor students. Just simply amazing!"

Choat plans to expand the event over the next few years into a districtwide day that includes all four RISD learning communities. Next year, the plan is to include RHS feeder elementary schools and build from there.

"It was a great start to a goal of changing the culture of inclusiveness on our campus, and many other campuses," Choat said.

We’ve been a little quiet since tryouts… but we’ve got some awesome updates!
First, congratulations to our 22-23 team! We’re super excited to have so many new members join us.
Second, congratulations to our 22-23 Captains. We are looking forward to all the great things this new leadership team will accomplish.
Lastly, we are extremely excited to welcome our new Assistant Director, Connor Wenning! So many new things… stay tuned for more news!
