Heritage Citrus Grove and Gardens Rialto Unified School District I created the "Heritage Citrus Grove" and Garden project in the Rialto Unified School District in 2015. It has now been eleven years since its beginning.

So follow along with me as I take you down the road of how I did it and and what it looks like now.

The How and Why I Created This Space.
HERITAGE CITRUS GROVE AND GARDENS RIALTO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT·SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2020·
I created the “Heritage Citrus Grove” project in hopes of creating Innovative Outdoor areas for the students of the Rialto Unified School District. I came up with the project concept at the Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit in Pasadena California in October of 2015. My inspiration was nurtured by a presentation I as attending the first morning of the pre-summit given by Sharon Danks, the Founder of “Green School Yards America”, who wrote the book: “Asphalt to Eco Systems.” With these groves and now gardens I want the students of my district to be able to experience a model environment were their curiosity and thirst for outdoor hands on activities involving agriculture, science, and math can be satisfied with the growing of garden vegetables, flowers, fruit and a large variety of citrus. Exposure to nature will enhance the learning experience and allow the students to grow in a way that cannot be duplicated in an indoor environment. The teachers will have at their disposal all that they can imagine in their outdoor classrooms.

The crew has had some time since the first grove was planted in December to get the process down to a science. They can now plant about 3 trees an hour.
The crew wastes no time in getting the trees planted. I didn’t make it to the site till almost 10:00 a.m. They had already planted a good portion of the trees before I had a chance to get there.

March 2, 2017. The trees arrived late in the day so the crew will start planting the seventeen trees tomorrow, Then grove number ten will be completed. We will have only six more to go. The trees are supposed to have numbered tags from the “California Department of Food and Agriculture” to track the trees because we are in a “Quarantine” area. Seven of the trees came without tags. I called the nursery to ask why. They said they ran out of numbers and had to go and pick more up from the “California Department of Food and Agriculture”.

Its February 19, 2016 and here we are at Trapp Elementary School. The area at Trapp were the grove and garden are to be planted is starting to grow back vegetation were the turf was removed. It will be a little more than a year before we come back and plant.
