Tonight we learned Honey will eat….

Anything you offer. 😅

We had a veggie platter and gave the herd some cool treats. Honey and Babe went right for the lettuce 🥬 and let’s just say they had a mouth full.

Bo & Honey 🍯❤️

They met for the first time today and, well… there might be a little senior romance brewing at Wild Willow. 👀😂

Will Grandma & Grandpa hit it off?

Will they take slow evening strolls around the pasture before turning in at 6:30?

Will they share a senior feed dinner and complain about their joints?

Will Bo start standing at the gate yelling, “HONEY, WHERE’D YOU PUT MY MEDICINE?!”

Will Honey tell the youngsters to get off her lawn?

Will they spend their afternoons standing under the shade tree discussing how nobody wants to work anymore?

Or will they simply stand next to each other in complete silence for 45 minutes because that counts as quality time after 20 years of marriage? 😂

Only time will tell.

For now, Grandma Honey seems to have caught Grandpa Bo’s attention. 🍯❤️

Stay tuned for The Golden Years: Wild Willow Edition.

Early-bird dinner served promptly at 4:30. 😂🐴

🐴 WELCOME HOME, BIG BO! 🤎

Big Bo is officially back home at Wild Willow Redemption, and we are so happy to have this big guy back with us.

Bo has spent the last chapter of his journey serving at STEPS with Horses through a free-lease partnership. While the lease arrangement ultimately didn’t develop in the way we had originally hoped, we are genuinely thankful for the time Bo spent there, the people he met, and the clients he had the opportunity to serve.

Sometimes partnerships evolve, circumstances change, and the best decision is simply to bring one of our horses home. We’re grateful we had the opportunity to explore the partnership, and we wish the STEPS team continued success in the work they do.

We’re also incredibly thankful that Gus, another horse who came through Wild Willow Redemption, remains permanently with STEPS. Gus has found a wonderful place there, is well cared for, and continues doing what we hoped for him all along—connecting with and serving clients. Knowing he is loved and has an important job makes us very proud of his redemption story. 🤎

As for Big Bo, his next chapter starts right back here at home.

Welcome home, handsome boy. We missed that big face around here. 🐴🌿

We’re starting a fun little community project here for the ranch hands, the horses, as well as volunteers.

Wild Willow Roots will be our first garden that we hope to expand to two areas on the property. We hope to yield delicious treats for the horses, herbs for community dinners and potlucks, as well as healthy vegetables for meals and soups.

Kristy, one of our board members, is heading this project. Thank you, Kristy! We look forward to seeing this project blossom and bloom! 🥔🥕🌽🥦🍅🥬🫜

Honey got trimmed upon arrival yesterday, and Sassy, Willow, and Hickory got theirs done today!

Thank you, Ben!

This was Hickory’s first ever trim and Ben said he was the best out of all of them! That’s how I like the babies ❤️❤️❤️

Honey & Babe

The two boujee babes… I can’t unhear this 🤣😅 this has got to be what they sound like when they’re discussing life over hay dinner.

As Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” 🤎

Has life felt busy lately?

Rushed? Overwhelming? Like you’re already thinking about the next thing before you’ve even finished the thing you’re doing?

Come stop and look around with us for a while. 🐴🌿

The herd has a pretty magical way of inviting you to be where your feet are.

They don’t care about the email you haven’t answered, tomorrow’s schedule, the laundry waiting at home, or the 47 things running through your head.

They’re here.

And when you spend enough time with them, somehow you start to be here, too.

Take a breath. Feel the dirt under your boots. Listen to the horses grazing. Notice the sun, the wind, the ridiculous donkey staring at you from across the pasture.

Life moves pretty fast.

Maybe you don’t need to keep up with it every second.

Maybe you just need somewhere that reminds you to stop and look around once in a while. 🤎

Come spend some time with the herd.

🍯🐴 WELCOME HOME, HONEY! 🐴🍯

Please help us welcome the newest member of the Wild Willow Redemption herd, JD’s Bit O Honey, affectionately known as Honey! 💛

Honey is a gorgeous 19-year-old, 15.2-hand buckskin mare who has officially joined our ranch for a well-deserved retirement and a new purpose as part of our equine-assisted counseling herd.

And let us tell you — she is every bit as sweet as her name. 🍯

✨ A LITTLE ABOUT HER BLOODLINES ✨

Honey comes from generations of Quarter Horse breeding, with her pedigree tracing back through some recognizable and influential names, including Two Eyed Jack, Impressive, Hollywood Gold, Leo, and Tivio Jessie James.

Her pedigree carries generations of Quarter Horse history — but while her bloodlines tell us where she came from, her next chapter is about who she gets to be. ❤️

🌿 A NEW PURPOSE. A FOREVER HOME. 🌿

At 19 years young, Honey has earned the opportunity to slow down, enjoy retirement, and spend her days surrounded by a herd she can call family.

She will also have the opportunity to become part of our equine-assisted counseling herd, where horses help create meaningful opportunities for connection, emotional awareness, trust, regulation, and healing.

Here at Wild Willow Redemption, we believe a horse’s value doesn’t end when their working years slow down.

Sometimes, their most meaningful chapters are still ahead of them.

Honey doesn’t have to prove her worth here. She already has it. 💛

🇺🇸 VETERANS & FIRST RESPONDERS

WWR is especially proud to support the men and women who have served our communities and our country.

Through our equine-assisted counseling program, veterans and first responders have access to counseling services at a discounted rate here at Wild Willow Redemption.

If you’re a veteran or first responder — or know someone who may benefit from working with a counselor alongside our herd — please reach out to us for information about the program, current availability, and reduced-rate services.

Maybe Honey’s next chapter will become part of someone else’s, too. ❤️

We are so excited to get to know this sweet girl, give her the retirement she deserves, and discover what she brings to our herd and to the people who will have the privilege of knowing her.

Welcome to your next chapter, Honey. You’re home. 🍯🐴

Palos got food all over his face per usual when he’s in his stall, Babe has bed head even though she was just bathed yesterday, and lastly…

We have Honey 🍯

This sweet mama mare came to us today. More updates coming later, but her and Babe are attached at the hip, and she is so loved already.

I can see the kindness in her eyes 💜🐴

Welcome to WWR, Honey.

Redemption. 🤎

There is something incredibly beautiful about becoming someone you never knew you could be.

For horses, sometimes redemption looks like learning that hands can be kind. That food will come tomorrow. That they don’t have to survive every moment anymore. That they can rest, trust, play, and simply be a horse again.

For humans, maybe it isn’t so different.

Sometimes we spend so long surviving that we forget there might be another version of us waiting on the other side.

Softer.
Stronger.
Braver.
More whole.
More ourselves.

Not because the past disappeared.

But because it no longer gets to decide who we become.

That is what redemption means to us.

It’s the horse who learns to trust again.
It’s the human who realizes they can, too.

And maybe one of the most beautiful parts of this work is watching both discover that their story wasn’t over after all.

Sometimes the life waiting for you is one you never even knew was possible. 🌾🐴
