Whether your child's school has been in session for 1, 2, or 3 weeks, the 2025-26 school year is in full effect. All students should've had the opportunity to become acclimated to their scheduled routines. And parents, in case you haven't done so, this is the perfect time for you to get acquainted with their teacher. Positive parent-teacher relationships are extremely important in creating a strong foundation for your child's educational journey. With all adult parties working together for the best interest of your student, not only will the teacher appreciate the partnership, but your scholar will feel supported, confident, and valued. Here are some tips from 'Wise Read' regarding the importance of parent-teacher relationships.
The Importance of Parent-Teacher Relationships
The importance of parent-teacher relationships cannot be overstated. These relationships are crucial for a child’s overall development and academic success.
When parents and teachers work together as a team, they create a strong support system that benefits the child in numerous ways.
Parent-teacher relationships facilitate effective communication. Regular discussions about a child’s progress, strengths, and areas for improvement allow parents and teachers to stay informed and aligned. This open dialogue enables them to address any concerns or challenges promptly and collaboratively.
These relationships promote consistency and reinforce shared expectations. When parents and teachers work hand in hand, they can establish consistent routines, discipline strategies, and academic goals for the child. This consistency provides a stable and predictable environment, which is essential for a child’s growth and learning.
Parent-teacher relationships contribute to a holistic understanding of the child. Parents possess invaluable insights into their child’s personality, interests, and home environment, while teachers have professional expertise in education and child development. By combining these perspectives, parents and teachers gain a deeper understanding of the child’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, allowing for tailored and effective support.
Positive parent-teacher relationships have a significant impact on a child’s motivation and self-esteem. When parents and teachers demonstrate a united front, praising and encouraging the child’s efforts, the child feels valued and supported. This positive reinforcement boosts their confidence and fosters a love for learning.
Parent-teacher relationships create a sense of community and shared responsibility. When parents actively engage in their child’s education, attending parent-teacher meetings, volunteering in school activities, or participating in parent-teacher associations, they contribute to building a cohesive and supportive school environment. This collective effort enhances the overall educational experience for all students.
In conclusion, parent-teacher relationships are of utmost importance. They promote effective communication, consistency, holistic understanding of the child, and a sense of community. Parents and teachers create a strong foundation for a child’s academic and personal growth.

In order to get one of my tutees inspired to read every night, we went on a quick field trip. Within 30 seconds of walking around, my dude said, "It's so quiet in here." Ummmm...yeah, it's the library.
The plan was to have De'Miere choose a book (no comic books, Dog Man, or Captains with Underpants) he will read to me over the phone for 10 minutes, three nights a week. He selected, "Level 13; a slacker novel", by Gordon Korman. We checked out our individual copy and will begin our "Book Buddy" sessions on Monday.
Reading is very important for our children because it not only helps them view literacy in a positive way and builds language and thinking skills, but it also plants seeds of knowledge and the desire to learn more. In case you may have a difficult time getting your child to read, you may want to take an educational excursion to the library and find a good book that will maintain their interest. And in the event that the book has been adapted into a movie, partake in both and have them write a paragraph on the similarities, differences, and which creative vehicle they preferred. Before you know it, they might actually start to enjoy reading just a little bit more!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dom--a 5th grader in our building. He came to our 4th grade floor to tell one of the teachers (who used to tutor him) how he had improved his reading score. My man was reading at a 1st grade level at the beginning of this school year, and he has managed to bring it up to where he's reading at his grade level! How impressive is that?!! Dom mentioned how his entire family worked with him. From mom and dad to his siblings, each one played a part in working, encouraging, and motivating him to where he is today. Dom was also determined, disciplined and had the desire to improve. Not only are we proud of him, but he's proud of himself! If your child is struggling in school, please take the time over summer break to come up with a family plan that will help further your child's academic journey. It means so much more when the entire family is in it to win it!

For someone who just completed their very first spelling test ever and is about to walk with their head held high into first grade this upcoming school year, I'd say she has everything to smile about! Taliyah has been working on her blend sounds/CVCC (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant) words, and her hard work is definitely paying off! Shout outs to mom and dad who have been working with her. Parental participation is key!!! Congrats Taliyah--I am so proud of you!
