Dirt Days Summer Camp

Dirt Days Summer Camp MovementšŸƒā€ā™‚ļøā€āž”ļø Nature🌲 ArtšŸŽØ ServicešŸ¤ BelongingšŸ‘« Movement

Our bodies are built to leap, skip, and climb.

Just two Mother/Daughter duos who have a passion for education, children, the outdoors, and educating children in the outdoors. The four of us have been employed together, led various trips and camp-outs together, and most importantly, have been best friends together for 16 years. Our Model

Our program is based off the idea illustrated by Julia Hotz in her book ā€˜The Connection Cure’, which expla

ins how the 5 key elements to overall health are Movement, Nature, Art, Service, and Belonging. Each one of our camp days has a section of time dedicated to fulfilling each of these needs that require an individual to thrive in their environment. These all come natural to children, and getting them to stop moving is what can be seen as the real challenge. Free play and exploration are encouraged at our camp, but in addition to what comes naturally, our team will lead daily stretches, games, and strolls through the forest. Nature

A breath never tastes as sweet and fresh as it does in the woods or on a mountain. Our campus is located on 20 acres that is nestled against vast National Forest land. This provides us with the privilege of being immersed in the woods with various flora and fauna, and wildlife visitors (mostly the cute, fuzzy, less-dangerous kind). Art

The act of creating is clinically proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of inattention. Every camp day has a block reserved for an artistic project tailored to each age group that focuses on our theme for the week. Basic art supplies will be available for use at ANY time outside of the structured activity, to promote free expression. Service

We have a deep dedication to the land we recreate on, and to each other. As stewards of the land, our team may have an organized trash pick-up as our service of the day. For a public service, designing cards to be delivered to the residents of our local nursing home might be in our ā€˜Service’ block for the day. Belonging

Humans are hardwired to connect with others. Everyone craves the feeling of being seen and understood, and at Dirt Days we vow to meet each young human where they are at. As an all-inclusive space, we hope to create and foster connection that lasts far beyond our campsite. We are a community, and all are welcome to a chair in our circle.

Holy moly! How did 7 weeks fly by so fast?!
This last week of camp we learned how to make different foods over/in a camp fire, make Oregon grape/huckleberry jam, and even got to have a full blown family camp out with our little camper’s families!

Shout out to:
Heavens Peak Organic Market Eureka, Sam Jacobs, Walt & Hillary Brannon for our delicious camp snacks!

Ailen The Wrangler for coming and surprising our camping families each with their own special photo shoot!

As our camp season has come to an end we would like to invite you to take a look back to the very beginning!
We started Dirt days on a whim as we saw a need in our community and thought maybe we might be able to help fulfill it, and before we knew it our whim turned into a full blown 7 week day camp filled with more fun, joy, & laughter than we could have hoped for!
There is nothing more magical than watching little minds experience the wonders the outdoors has to offer!

Our team feels so blessed & grateful to have been able to share our knowledge and love for nature with your kiddos, though we could NOT have done this without our amazing community who all came together and rocked it for our campers with all sorts of different teachings, snacks, & lunches! Each and every one of you has made our camp brighter and for that we cannot thank you enough!

We know a lot of you will be wondering if Dirt days will be continuing next year or if we have anything planned for before next summer. At this moment we don’t have anything planned, though we are hopeful for what our future holds! Again we want to thank everyone who made this all happen. We appreciate you all so much!

Please enjoy some pictures from our last weeks adventures and some of our favorite photos throughout the season ā˜€ļøšŸŒ²
More photos to come!
