Your Heavenly Retirement Account
At a recent study session, we discussed the importance of building “treasures in heaven,” which Christ commands of us, for our benefit. In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:20-21, NIV), Christ said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Treasures in heaven take many forms. They include developing and having the godly characteristics of the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It also consists of the knowledge of building Christ’s kingdom in this world, by helping to bring people to Christ, aiding those in need, helping those in our families, and more.
Want to strengthen your heavenly accounts? Read the Scriptures and pray daily.
