I interviewed Kairi Al-Amin and Dr Mazhar Kazi in the same year, 2019. It was exactly 400 years after 1619, when the first recorded group of African Muslims were enslaved & brought to America. So I interviewed Kairi about his father, Imam Jamil, who is one of the top voices in the African American struggle. 2019 was also 50 years since 1969, when the Islamic Society of Greater Houston was founded. So I interviewed Mazhar Kazi, one of the founders. Both Imam Jamil and Imam Mazhar passed away today. One of the leading indigenous Muslim leaders & one of the leading immigrant Muslim leaders.

Our generation has huge shoes to fill. We’re standing on the shoulders of giants. May Allah give us the knowledge & wisdom needed to continue their legacies of contributing positively to humanity.

I recently met Sheikh Saif & Ustadh Fahd of Fawakih Institute and they are doing incredible work Mashallah! They were visiting schools & Masjids in Texas and I had the honor of learning from them and showing them around a bit. I can tell you, they know their stuff Mashallah, and they are very kind & patient. Check this out, Ustadh Fahd explained the two simple and common Quranic words “Al-Rahmaan Al-Raheem” in a way I had never heard it before, which surprised me because I’ve been reading the Quran since I was 5. “aan” is said with the mouth opened vertically, like the y-axis showing the intensity of Allah’s mercy & “eem” is said horizontally like the x-axis representing the wideness of Allah’s mercy 🤯

Consider this, if the average marriage age goes from 20 to 30 for just 2 generations then we lost a whole generation:

20 x 3 = 60 (3 generations in 60 years)
30 x 2 = 60 years (only 2 generations in 60 years)
