The members at Cypress Falls High School (Houston, TX) held a donation drive this winter to help community members and also honor their principal's late mom, Ms. Ruby ๐โค๏ธ.
NHS joined with Rho Kappa and the school's social studies department to collect items for a Thanksgiving meal and decorate and pack boxes, including $25 gift cards, for Ruby Baskets. Ms. Ruby, the mother of the school's principal, used to make baskets and deliver them to families in her community. When Ms. Ruby passed in 2016, NHS members honored her by continuing her tradition to make baskets for their community.
"For as long as I can remember, my mom would collect canned goods and items needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal," Principal Becky Denton said. "We would then load them up and deliver them to some families who could use a little blessing. I remember this tradition since I was itty bitty until just shortly before mom passed. Special thanks to Cy-Falls National Honor Society and Rho Kappa for partnering with me this year. I am blown away at their generosity and love for me helping me keep this tradition alive."
The boxes were delivered in the community and the food items went to a local nonprofit for its Thanksgiving drive.
