Last Saturday, a group of local students and adults teamed up to clean the Rock Art Trail behind The Keller Pointe and K9 Pointe Dog Park (405 Rufe Snow Drive).

This group, led by artist Deborah Gatzke, tidied and washed painted rocks along a portion of the trail and used leaf blowers to clear the leaves, branches and other small debris that recent rainstorms left behind.

Thank you, Deborah, for organizing this effort. And thank you to all the National Honor Society, Boys Scouts and Green Cord volunteers. We really appreciate all of your help!

The members at Cypress Falls High School (Houston, TX) held a donation drive this winter to help community members and also honor their principal's late mom, Ms. Ruby ๐Ÿ’Žโค๏ธ.

NHS joined with Rho Kappa and the school's social studies department to collect items for a Thanksgiving meal and decorate and pack boxes, including $25 gift cards, for Ruby Baskets. Ms. Ruby, the mother of the school's principal, used to make baskets and deliver them to families in her community. When Ms. Ruby passed in 2016, NHS members honored her by continuing her tradition to make baskets for their community.

"For as long as I can remember, my mom would collect canned goods and items needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal," Principal Becky Denton said. "We would then load them up and deliver them to some families who could use a little blessing. I remember this tradition since I was itty bitty until just shortly before mom passed. Special thanks to Cy-Falls National Honor Society and Rho Kappa for partnering with me this year. I am blown away at their generosity and love for me helping me keep this tradition alive."

The boxes were delivered in the community and the food items went to a local nonprofit for its Thanksgiving drive.

The chapter dubbed it Operation 100, a project with a goal of providing 100 Christmas boxes for Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse, an organization that delivers the gifts to children worldwide. The students garnered the involvement of elementary, middle and high school students by creating flyers requesting specific items from different grade levels. They also created an Amazon Prime wishlist and publicized it through social media accounts.

In the end, the chapter exceeded its goal, collecting 2,000 items for 115 boxes!

"It was a wonderful feeling to drop off the 115 boxes at the drop-off location," said NHS President Kylie Force.
