Good afternoon UCP.
Joining you in worship this Lords day from Rwanda, Africa
Jim Vollmer is the Samaritan for November.
Hi UCP friends- Thank you for considering a donation to Evan’s gofundme for his Eagle Scout project which helps our turtles at Lake Anne!

I am trying to sign in for today's virtual 10am church service.
https://fb.watch/3PvZnuTfRk/ please share and help me out i have the links if you want them let me know please
Good morning UCP. A beautiful day we have been blessed with.
I invite my friends and family at United Christian Parish to enjoy this special Pentecost Offering in Song by the College of Regional Ministers (including yours truly). May the reconciling power and love of the Holy Spirit renew each of us, our congregations, our nation and world! Blessed Pentecost!
SCAM ALERT! Warning to UCP members! This morning I got an email supposedly from Marilyn Silvey, who is out of town. The person asked me to buy $400 worth of Itunes Gift Cards for her relative who's having a birthday, then scratch off the silver strip and give "Marilyn" the numbers. "Marilyn" would supposedly pay me back the $400 once she got back in town. This is a SCAM! Please be careful if you get an email from [email protected].
He has risen
Happy Easter to you all!
I may be a retired vampire, but some things never die. I hope others remember there's a huge shortage. 4,000 blood drives nationally were canceled this week. There are places you can donate if you are healthy. We are all in this together! www.inovablood.org
Please consider supporting United Christian Parish Preschool by dining out at Glory Days tonight! Simply dine-in or carry-out at any Glory Days location, save your itemized receipt (not credit card receipt) and submit it to the church office attn: preschool fundraiser.
10% of the sales we generate will be contributed to the preschool’s scholarship fund. You’ll be cooking enough next week—take tonight off! See you there! 🍔🥗🍕

“Expressing our joys, telling our truths, asking the questions we need to ask, repenting and making amends, being our honest and authentic selves—these things are too important to be silent.” —Rev. Ashley DeTar Birt on Lk. 19:28-40 for A Sanctified Art LLC

Today is Palm Sunday. It is the day that we remember and celebrate the day Jesus entered Jerusalem as Savior and King. Palm Sunday also marks the start of Holy Week, a time when we as Christians reflect on the life and mission of Jesus.

Dear God, we all know the perfect sting of a critic, calling us out when we go our own way. We all know the fear that tells us to stay put, and the anxiety around doing a new thing. It can be all-encompassing. Remind us to trust our gut, to listen to our heart, and to follow where you lead. Help us be brave. Help us be faithful. Amen.

04/05/2022

There is no one right way to worship, to pray, or to practice our faith. If it is heartfelt and loving, God welcomes it.

It is a gift to love others boldly.

“God doesn’t need our ‘good’ behavior. God needs our being/be-ing. Remember all of you is beautiful. Live as though you are an expensive gift from God to Creation, because surely you are.” —Rev. Larissa Kwong Abazia on Jn. 12:1-8 for A Sanctified Art LLC

"When I closed my eyes and repeated this verse over and over again, I began to see the silhouette of a person filled with the echoes of the first creation narrative in Genesis. … The figures, one experiencing new life, and the other sharing the love of Christ, embrace and dance, offering a new picture of what the ministry of reconciliation might look like."

"Grace is rain in the desert—
you’re not sure whether to
laugh, cry, or dance.
Grace is a miracle,
all by itself.
In a scorekeeping world,
grace doesn’t play by the rules."

Creator God, when my self-esteem is shrinking, when I worry that I am not good enough, when I feel so small— surround me. Silence those voices of self doubt. Amplify the voices of love and belonging. Teach me to see myself the way you always do. Amen.

03/24/2022

God of grace, you are a God of endless second chances, and yet I am so afraid of making mistakes. I am afraid of letting people down. I am afraid of failing in ways that matter. I am afraid of embarrassing myself. Remind me that there is grace for me here. Give me the courage to take risks, to stumble, to fall, to learn from it, and to grow. Amen

"The emphasis in this image is on what is happening below the surface, in the depths of the dirt. The roots stretch toward the hands of the Gardener as the specks of dirt seem to also image the stars of the vast universe. Within us, despite what we produce, despite what can be seen at the surface, we contain multitudes. We bear the image of God, and our mere existence makes us worthy…"

Loving God, so often I feel undeserving of your love. I don’t pray enough. I don’t give enough. I don’t strive for justice enough. I could always be doing better, and yet you still long to be in a relationship with me. Erase the guilt that keeps me from you. Help me to trust that this love exists for me. Amen.

God who scoops me up and pulls me in, I am longing for your care. My bones are weary. My heart is heavy. I need a minute to rest. Pull me into your embrace so that I may breathe easily for a moment. Remind me in between breaths that I am never alone. Amen.

"As a mother, I know what it feels like to watch from a relative distance as a child makes heartbreaking decisions. As I consider the destruction we continue to visit upon each other and all of creation, I imagine God is still grieved. What emotions arise within you when you consider the human condition?"

"God of affirmation, I want to be brave enough to say 'yes' to the things you place in my path that are meant for me. Do not let imposter syndrome, fear, shame, or scarcity silence a 'yes' that you have in mind. Give me the courage to say 'yes,' and let those 'yes' responses pull me closer to you, and closer to the person you call me to be. Amen."

"I depicted this story [of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness] within the structure of a stained glass window. Where in our religious structures do we find temptation winning the day? Where do our selfish actions fall on this temptation continuum? May we see the abundance before us, dispelling the desire for more."

God, we live in a world that is obsessed with money, status, power, and beauty. Extracting myself from those waters is like pulling myself out of quicksand. I need your help. I want to be known for the things you care about—love, justice, humility, mercy, joy—not likes, follows, wealth, or status. There is more to life than the world often lets on. Help me to see that more clearly. Amen.

Who We Are

An open & affirming church, United Christian Parish is united in ministry: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Presbyterian Church (USA), United Church of Christ and United Methodist. The practices and beliefs of all four denominations are seen in worship and our ministries.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to worship at God's table, no matter where they are on their faith journey.
We intentionally work to be like Jesus - open to all we meet, regardless of any "labels" our society may attach to them.
