Edlin School is a K4 - 8th Grade Private School in Reston, Virginia that provides an advanced learning environment for academically gifted children.

Edlin strives to create an environment that fosters academic and personal growth. The students have the opportunity to join in a diverse and advanced academic curriculum based on the classic core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, but also including athletics, performing and visual arts, foreign languages, and computer access and instruction. The program is an intellectually demanding one that prepares students for the increasingly competitive and rigorous further education awaiting them. The faculty encourages students to express themselves with confidence, clarity, and critical acumen. An ideal student-to-faculty ratio enables teachers to employ a variety of teaching methods and styles designed to help each child reach his or her potential. Socially, the school seeks to provide a familial, nurturing environment that encourages students to grow in self-esteem that values the dignity of each individual. The school is not parochial but does teach and support the universal values of friendliness, cooperation, and social responsibility. The school encourages students and their families to practice such values in the outside world as well. The expert and caring faculty, the challenging and balanced academic program, and the help from supportive parents make Edlin a place that stimulates young minds and instills a love of learning in all.

🎶 Math is going on tour! 🎶
This week, our seventh-grade students took on The Modeling Musical Tour as part of their preparation for the COMAP Mathematical Modeling Challenge!

Working in teams as tour managers for a music agency, students selected a performer and designed a four-city concert tour with a specific goal: reach the most fans, earn the most revenue, or keep tickets affordable. They chose cities, planned an efficient travel route, selected venues, set ticket prices, and calculated projected attendance and revenue.

Students then created one-page tour proposals explaining how their mathematical models supported their goals. They also evaluated their work by identifying both a strength and a limitation of their models—an important part of real-world mathematical modeling!

This challenge gave students the opportunity to combine mathematics, creativity, decision-making, and communication while discovering that real problems often have more than one possible solution. We loved seeing the thoughtful and imaginative tours they created! 🎤📊🗺️

📚 **Bringing Summer Reading to Life!**

Our students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a **virtual book talk with author Alan Gratz**, author of *Refugee*, one of our summer reading selections.

After reading and writing about *Refugee* over the summer, students were able to hear directly from the author about the book, his writing process, and the inspiration behind the story. What a wonderful way to connect their summer reading to the person who wrote it!

📚🏛️ **Learning Beyond the Classroom!**

Our students had an incredible opportunity to visit the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.! They explored this historic and beautiful institution, learned about its remarkable collections and experienced firsthand one of our nation’s greatest centers of history and knowledge.

Even with the dreary weather, our students enjoyed walking through the city and making the most of a wonderful day of learning beyond the classroom! 💙

🍎📚 **What a fantastic Back-to-School Night!**

It was wonderful welcoming our **Lower School families** to Edlin last night! Parents had the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet with teachers and learn more about what their children will be learning and experiencing this year.

We loved seeing so many of our families and kicking off another great school year together. Thank you to everyone who joined us! 💙

🎬🍿 **Movie Night Fun at Edlin!**

We had such a fun time at our Movie Night this weekend watching *WALL-E*! 🤖💛 It was a wonderful evening filled with friends, laughter, popcorn and plenty of smiles.

We are incredibly proud of all of the students who ran for office. Putting yourself forward, preparing a speech and speaking in front of your peers takes courage and confidence. Each candidate did a wonderful job representing themselves and sharing their ideas with our school community.

🇺🇸 **We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget.**

Today, our Edlin School Middle school gathered for a flag-lowering ceremony in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Together, our students and faculty honored the lives lost, the heroes who showed extraordinary courage, and the families forever impacted by that day. As part of this remembrance, all grades will participate in an age-appropriate lesson during their Social Studies class.

May we always remember. 🇺🇸
