This was a herculean effort that took almost 3 hours and could not have been possible without the help of many. Thank you to Herrison and Christopher Dadoo's 4th and 7th grade Edlin School families for encouraging the kids to help out by baking, assembling, packing, labeling, and counting all the donations. They rallied together for a great community cause!!

Elliot, the author of their summer reading books, Under A War-Torn Sky and Give Me Liberty. This program exemplifies the enriching experiences we strive to provide, fostering a love for reading and nurturing the creative minds of our students.

Two Edlin Class of ’23 students, Eesha and Varsha both received Thermo Fisher Junior Innovator Challenge Nominations this June! This is the premier National Middle School STEM Competition. This is an amazing accomplishment as only the top 10% of 6th-8th graders participate in this nation wide science fair.
Eesha and Varsha are both great examples of how hard work and initiative can lead to great opportunities. Congratulations!

Field Day was a huge success this morning! We had to cut short due to the air quality but the kids had a great time! A HUGE thank you to Mr. Morrill, Mr. Junsay, staff and volunteers for making this a memorable event for our students!
Decision Day at Edlin School! Our 8th graders hard work has paid off! Thursday Edlin School welcomed the Virginia Department of Aviation and their Introduction to Flight Program.
Students learned about the ICON A5 amphibious aircraft, how aircraft’s fly, as well as careers in aviation. They even had the chance to sit in the cockpit!
This Saturday Edlin hosted an art show with pieces students have been working on throughout the year. Following the art show families bid on silent auction items to raise money for the Edlin PTO.
The night ended with a spaghetti dinner for all to enjoy, with the leftovers being donated to firefighters at Station 25.

Our 7th and 8th graders spent a week learning about the Coastal Ecology in Wallops Island. Students participated in an oceanography research cruise, squid dissection, wetland ecology, nocturnal adaptation, maritime forestry and kayaking activities. Hands on learning at its best! Our 1st Sock Hop Dance was a success! Our Music Director continues to to go above an beyond making our school events memorable! Teachers, Parents and Students wowed us in their leather jackets and poodle skirts and danced the night away to the 50s greatest tunes!
We were very excited to host the Lt. Governor of Virginia, Winsome Earle-Sears as our guest speaker for a special Leadership Assembly to celebrate Leadership Week. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn first-hand about leadership, government, and citizenship.
Our 8th graders participated in the Lessons in Leadership program at Mount Vernon and led the wreath laying ceremony at George Washington’s tomb. Students read notes about the qualities that made Washington an effective leader, read his “Letter to the Governors” for the crowd, and then they unlocked the tomb and allowed us enter to lay the wreath at George and Martha’s feet.
April 24-28 is National Student Leadership Week and our SGA and National Junior Honor Society students participated in our first School Beautification Day. Students led a variety of activities such as building a lending library, planting spring flowers, organizing the PE shed, painting and designing a community bulletin board. Thanks to all the teachers and staff to make this day possible.
Studying the life, times and works of Shakespeare is an integral part of our language arts curriculum. We had a school-wide celebration of Shakespeare’s birthday complete with cupcakes and a special assembly program for 3rd -8th grade students. Our 5th graders performed excerpts of several Shakespeare plays for all to enjoy.
Before spring break our K4 and K5 classes enjoyed a trip to the National History Museum to explore the Dinosaur 🦕Exhibit and participated in a hands on fossil examination!
Our International Field Trip to Barcelona did not disappoint! Lots of gelato, walking, singing, food, wine and futbol! So many great adventures to Camp Nou, Parc Guell, Tarragona, Girona, Stiges, Sagra da Familia and La playa!
Our fourth graders had a lesson on Newton's 3rd Law of Motion: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. They designed and constructed cars powered by balloons in their weekly MakerSpace class. They drew blueprints of their ideas, gathered the necessary materials, assembled their cars, tested, made revisions, and competed to see whose car could travel the greatest distance, powered only by the air in the balloon.
Edlin Wins at the Odyssey of the Mind Competition this weekend! This competition requires out of the box thinking and problem solving skills where students must solve predetermined problems with specific metrics and obstacles. We are so proud of our students and very thankful for our parent coaches! We can not wait to see how they do at the State Competition on April 15th!

Students love the integrated approach to learning music and art at Edlin School. The cross curricular model is fun and engaging! Students in K5 are using their imagination drawing creative 'Treble' characters.
Our 5th and 6th graders spent last week on an overnight trip to Camp Highroad in Middleburg, VA. They got to try their hands at canoeing, archery, a high ropes course, and more! The students also focused on ecology and how they can better serve the environment around them.
Our Ides of March celebration was enjoyed by all. At Edlin all grades take Latin. Our 5th and 6th Graders wowed us with their performance of Paris and the Golden Apple and all costumes did not disappoint!
Our students learned all about Pi Day today and also ate a lot of pie!

Edlin School wins the Foxcroft STEM Challenge Event held on February 25th. 👏👏
Team 1, The Super Supernovas brought home the Overall 1st Place Gold Medal and were crowned the Team Champions at the event for winning 1st Place in the Physics Challenge, 1st Place in the Chemistry Challenge, and 3rd Place in the Biology Challenge.
Team 2, The Wonderful Windmills won 3rd place in the Physics Challenge, and performed admirably in every event.
Our students had a wonderful day visiting and learning all about the history of Mount Vernon and George Washington this week. We also had the honor of raising the flag! 🇺🇸

Our 7th Graders study the US Government and had a special field trip to the White House last week. They even got a glimpse of the President boarding Marine One.

A BIG thank you to the US Space Force for coming in to educate our students on how the Guardians protect global space operations and that space is no longer the limit.
Our 8th Graders spent the day at the Holocaust Museum participating in hands on learning and reflecting on this horrific event in history. They were also able to hear stories from survivors in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Our math teachers are always doing their best to keep math interesting. Most recently, the students have been graphing the path of a soccer ball using positive and negative slopes and the coordinates of different players, creating reverse-engineered equations for trivia answers, and calculating the chances of a team progressing to the finals using probability, combinations, and permutations.
Our Winter Conert was a huge success! We had our piano recital, A Ca****la, beginning band, intermediate band and our ukulele students perform under the guidance of our Music Department and Ukulele Teacher!
Always looking for ways to enhance our advanced curriculum at Edlin. Last week, we attended the National Association for Gifted Children Conference learning from nationally recognized leaders in education and building relationships with the top vendors.
