Learning by doing! MS2TC in Warren, MI, uses the Eco-Schools framework to support their 7th Grade Science Habitat Project. Their action plan puts students in the field— mapping habitats, boosting biodiversity, testing water quality, and designing sustainablespaces. Along the way, students build leadership, collaboration, and real-world STEAM skills while making a meaningful impact in their community. With support from the Clinton River Watershed Council, Michigan DNR, and returning GM Mentor Elizabeth Donoghue, students are connecting classroom learning to environmental action—and exploring pathways toward future STEAM careers.

These hands-on, virtual workshops provide foundational content knowledge and introduce a wide variety of standards-aligned activities you can use in your classrooms. Each attendee will receive a box of materials by mail to build synchronously alongside our facilitator. Workshops and materials are geared toward middle school and high school teachers. No prior knowledge on the topics is required.

Join us from 11AM-2PM Eastern on the following Saturdays:
• Power Grid 101: September 26, 2026
• Wind Energy 101: October 17, 2026
• Solar Energy 101: November 21, 2026
• Offshore Wind 101: December 5, 2026

Registration closes 2 weeks before each workshop date.

Each workshop costs $225 and includes $200 in materials! 6-12th grade STEM teachers can code CREATE101 at checkout to bring the workshop cost from $225 to just $25!

Through the National Wildlife Federation and grant General Motors Green STEAM partnership, GM mentors are helping students turn sustainability into real-worl.d action, while inspiring the next generation of STEAM leaders.

This year, students and mentors completed 157 environmental actions, engaged 3,300 youth, created 37,800 square feet of habitat, planted 1800 native plants, and so much more!

The 10th Annual NWF EcoCareers Summit wrapped this past Spring, and the energy was electric. Students from across the country connected with professionals in climate, conservation, and sustainability, and we were left inspired and motivated for the future!

✨ Green skills are in demand. Across every industry.

For 11 years, the National Wildlife Federation's Eco-Schools program and GM have teamed up to turn classrooms into innovation labs.

During the 2025–26 school year alone, over 20 schools across Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Missouri participated in the GM Green STEAM Partnership, building the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Click the link to read more about Flint Hill Elementary, where students wrote their own "Eco-Code" and turned their campus into a living laboratory, even growing hydroponic lettuce to be served in the cafeteria! 🥬

Or Hull Prairie Elementary, where, with nearly 200 students involved, they expanded from a few buckets to a 40-plant hydroponic tower! They raised trout, tackled composting, and donated fresh produce to local food banks. 🐟

Sustainability can be a pathway to critical thinking, leadership, and community action. We are so proud of these young leaders!

The Green Schools Conference (GSC) brings together school district leaders, sustainability professionals, and the AEC community to move from ideas to implementation, advancing healthy, resilient, and sustainable schools nationwide.

The 2027 education program is designed to deliver practical, real-world strategies, meaningful peer exchange, and cross-sector collaboration. Through sessions and hands-on workshops, participants gain tools, insights, and connections that help turn sustainability goals into action within their schools and communities. To ensure we have a diverse representation of perspectives and modalities, we've extended the submission deadline a week from the original June 22 due date.
