Day two of Panther Preview brought just as much energy and fun! 🐾 We loved meeting our second group of students and cannot wait to officially welcome you all this fall! 💙

Day one of our Panther Preview was a huge success! 💙 Transitioning to middle school is an exciting milestone, and today our incoming scholars had a great time getting acquainted with the building and meeting our staff. They also participated in engaging team-building activities with their future classmates. We cannot wait to welcome more Panthers for day two tomorrow! 🩶

Look sharp and feel ready, Panthers! 💙 🩶 We are proud to share this generous community event from Snip N Stylz Barbershop. They are offering free haircuts for students on Sunday, August 16th, and the afternoon includes a moon bounce, food, and live music! The event will be from 11 AM to 5 PM at 1110 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170. While you're there, consider bringing some school supplies to donate to help fellow scholars.

Panther Preview (Rising 7th Graders Only)

Date: Tuesday, August 4 OR Wednesday, August 5, 2026, 8 AM – 12 PM

Rising 7th graders are invited to attend one action-packed session to learn about life as a middle schooler. Students will get acquainted with the building, meet some staff members, and participate in fun team-building games. Transportation is available.

Open House

Date: August 20, 2026, 5:00 PM - 7 PM

All students and families are invited to attend Open House at LHMS from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the building, practice walking your class schedule, and meet teachers. Parents/Caregivers may submit updated Emergency Care Cards and/or Health Information. Medication may be dropped off in the clinic.

Back-to-School Night

Date: September 17, 2026, 6 PM - 8 PM

This is an opportunity for parents/caregivers to meet their child’s teachers and learn about course curriculum and classroom expectations. Attendees will walk through their child’s class schedule and experience a “day in the life” of their child.

Bus stops and class schedules will be posted in ParentVUE prior to the first day of school under the ‘Student Info’ tab.

Can’t make Open House? Don’t worry! Our halls will be full of staff members to help students locate their 1st period classroom. All students will receive a paper class schedule and school map in 1st period on the first day of school.

Take a look at how we spent our final days. Yesterday, we had an absolute blast at Field Day! We ran, we competed, and we got a little muddy. 🏃‍♂️💦 It was the perfect way to burn off that end-of-year energy.

And a huge shoutout to our amazing School News Crew! 🎥🎤 These students worked so hard all year to keep us informed and entertained. Here they are on their very last day. We are so proud of them!

This week, we celebrated our outstanding 8th-grade scholars during our in-school awards announcements. These awards recognize academic excellence, character, and leadership over the past year. We look forward to sharing more memories with you—photos from the moving-on celebration will be posted here soon!

Last Thursday, we welcomed back our former Hughes Panthers for the annual South Lakes High School Senior Walk. It is always a joy to see our alumni in their caps and gowns walking these halls again. Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 💙 🩶 🎓 🐾

Panther Pride was on full display in Alexandria this past weekend. Our Advanced Theater students showcased their amazing talents at the Precipice Theater Annual Gala hosted at the historic George Washington Masonic Memorial. Thank you to our arts educators and families for continually supporting our young performers. 💙 🩶 🐾

Teamwork makes the dream work. Our girls' basketball team showed incredible growth, unified spirit, and unwavering support for one another this season. 🐾

It is almost time to celebrate our 8th-grade scholars and show off our Panther Pride as they prepare for high school! Our students have worked incredibly hard during their middle school journey, and we cannot wait to honor their achievements.

Join us for the 8th grade moving-on celebration on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the South Lakes High School gymnasium.
