The C. Liassides Afghanistan Banknote Collection will close today at 1pm (BST). This is a sale of 362 lots spanning from 1919 – 1969 and lots will close every 15 seconds. There will be no subsequent live session and when the lot closes at the end of the countdown, there will be no further bidding accepted, so please do place bids in plenty of time.
The owner of this collection is Dr. Chris Liassides, a doctor based in Cyprus. Chris started collecting Afghanistan banknotes which he considered emblematic of Greek culture in Asia. He completed the collection of standard issues within a short time span, and moved onto the more difficult to obtain, discovering older issues back to 1919, specimens, Thomas de La Rue specimens, Bradbury & Co, perforated specimens, printer errors, cancellation banknotes and some trial or colour variants along the way.
The lot shown is number 189, a Bank of Afghanistan Specimen 1000 Afghanis.
