Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts & Sciences

Students in Mrs. Taylor's 4th grade class were tasked with researching a specific planet and creating a presentation. As part of their assignment, they had to design innovative solutions to make their planet habitable for humans, considering its unique climatic challenges. While some planets are inherently inhospitable, students were encouraged to employ creativity and practicality in their inventions. They were given the option to use either Canva or Google Slides for their presentations. Very impressive!

We've had a wonderful KINDNESS WEEK here at HWES! Today's theme, "Dream of Kindness", has our whole school wearing pajamas, snuggling stuffies, and sharing favorite books. These 1st and 4th grade Book Buddies are loving it!

Our wonderful preschool teachers brought the snow INSIDE today to the delight of their students! They used plastic animals to make tracks in their mini snowscapes!

Assistant Principal, Sean McCartney, presents gift bags and notes of gratitude from the FCPS Leadership Team (including ) to our wonderful cafeteria staff. We are so grateful for their hard work, kindness and dedication to our school and students!

It’s SPIRIT WEEK at HWES! Today was DECADES DAY! These folks were all in!

First graders had a blast learning about surface tension through bubble science! Fun Fact: The bubble wands were made on our 3-D printer! Leave it to our wonderful science teacher, Mrs. Negri, to put the "phun" in physics!

New HWES Librarian, "Miss Sarah" Richardson, gets to know students better on their first visit to the library!

🌷 We wish our students and teachers a happy and restful Spring Break! Schools and school offices will be closed. Students will return to school on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Kindergarten students in Ms. Wilmier's Art class created their self portraits with clay! They explored different clay making techniques to make their features. Stay tuned for the final painted portraits!

The Measurement Lab Is Now Open at HWES! In second grade we are giving our students hands-on experiences in order to guide their understanding of the concepts of measurement. This gives our students opportunities to make decisions and have meaningful conversations about the measurement process.

Chitrasena Dance Company, a classical Sri Lankan dance group, performed and danced with Mrs. O (our dance/movement instructor) and our 4th graders! Catch this amazing company perform this Saturday 11/5 at GMU Center for the Arts!

The PTA Bookfair is 100% virtual this year. Unlike previous years, you can browse and shop anytime day or night (and you can do it in your PJ’s)! You can also share this link with your family and friends who might be interested in purchasing books this holiday season. Also, there is a wider variety of books available to purchase online...from your child’s first reader to books you can read when you have a quiet moment.

Purchases will be shipped directly to your home (or the address of your choice) and will be delivered 7 to 10 days from purchase. All orders over $30.00 get free shipping.

As in the past, teachers will be creating wish lists for their classroom libraries. If you purchase books from a teacher’s wish list, they will be sent directly to the school.

Profits from the book fair sales will help fund the Classroom Diversity and Inclusion libraries and other PTA projects. Thank you for your support!
