Wee Make Music was at Hope Lutheran Preschool this morning with the Sounds of Moo-sic! It was SO much fun! The kids had a great time with high and low moos, a worm song that they played kazoo with and they played instruments with The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't afraid of anything. What a great group of kiddos!

Did you know that September is Classical Music month? Yesterday, we were in the car listening to all kinds of music. I love calming and entertaining the kids with music, especially if they are together in the back seat. Paul likes Pentatonix, Home Free, Johnny Cash, Andy Grammer, and Adele. Lauren likes Ruth B, 70s, 80s and 90s music, Dolly Parton and Ylvis. So, wide variety there, but in the mix yesterday the requested to listen to the Trout by Schubert, not one, but twice. Yes!! That's what I'm after! What a wonderful variety of modern (ish) music that they can take with them and enjoy for the rest of their lives, while carrying on the love of classical music, also. This month, there are wonderful music happenings in the area. Check out the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, they are doing an EXTREME season this year. Friends, you've got to check this out! In September the orchestra is starting an amazing season of EXTREME Classical Music and here's the link to get see what they've got going on: http://www.springfieldmosymphony.org/index.php
Take them to the fall festivals and let them experience all kinds of music there, and they will take those experiences with them all their lives. They will be able to make more connections between the music they hear in movies, in restaurants and all around them. Start them early. Get them involved in Kindermusik, or other early childhood music education programs, and watch them widen their world of music and music exploration. Don't forget to have the read books like Farkle McBride or the Classical Composers Reference Book which is internet referenced will take them into the wonderful world of Classical Music!

I read a study published by the Medical Xpress called the Importance of Keeping a Beat: Researchers link ability to keep a beat to reading and language skills. Of COURSE this is true! Musicians have known this for.... forever! One book that I love that keeps a steady beat is I'm a Dirty Dinosaur! Of COURSE, it's published by Usborne, and that makes me love it more! One of the reviews for this book says this:
*Try I’m a Dirty Dinosaur as a choral piece. Experiment with rhythm and repetition. Consider having a group of kids reading the main narrative, and then the chorus coming in with the pages in capitals. Consider having one group establishing a beat with stamps and a vocalised ‘stamp’ behind the narrative, then everybody join in for the LOUD chorus. Play with some of the ideas in the activity above to add movement and life to your choral presentation.

Perhaps I’m a Dirty Dinosaur should have come with a warning sign? The riot and rumpus this book produces, the fun and games it encourages surely merits some kind of warning to staid passers by? Come to think of it though, I didn’t notice any raised eyebrows at my local library - I was too busy shaking my dinosaur tail, and roaring and rampaging with the rest of the kids.

Well, friends, it's been a long time since I've been on this page. I went back to school to pursue a degree in music therapy. I'd like for this page to be about that adventure! So, I've renewed my focus and am ready to share music with this wonderful group who have viewed this group over the last few years. Glad you're still here!

Wee will be restarting classes at Pelligrino's on Republic Road for kids 3-6. Children of all abilities are welcome to check out the classes.
