Talbot Hill Government and MicoSociety in action! Love these memories!
January 29, 2015 was a powerful day for members of our student government, board of education & Micro managers. These confident, empowered students sat at the conference table with U.S. Congressman Adam Smith to give him a picture of Talbot Hill’s MicroSociety through their eyes. Dr. Merri Rieger, RSD Superintendent was also at the table. Avery, Cora, Akilaah, Ivy, Donovan, Norah & Amy, you were awesome & we are proud to have you represent us! As an FYI for those that aren’t aware, Congressman Smith recognized Talbot Hill & our MicroSociety program on the floor on the US Congress, getting us officially in the Congressional Record!

More memories showing up today! Had to share!
With elections over, members of our legislative & executive branches of government have been meeting regularly. A part of the annual process is to visit & amend our Vision, Mission Statement, Goals for the year & to write their vows for their January inauguration. As he has done for the past 20 years Judge Robert McBeth stood before the entire school population & reciting the vows they written swore into office our President Avery Petek, Vice President Cora Supasatit, our 10 Senators & 16 House of Representatives. It is a very formal & memorable event for everyone. During this inauguration community meeting we also celebrated & honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with poems & readings.

Memor!ies to tide us over until we're back at Talbot Hill Elementary
February 4 we held our 2nd school wide MarketPlace of the year. A HUGE success -- every one of our 20 organizations were present & accounted for, providing goods & services to students, staff & guests! You’ll notice the lines at THE Bank --- pay day coming just a couple days ahead of the MarketPlace left some still needing to cash those checks! Luckily THE Bank staff was ready for the business! Business plans, business licenses, product selling records & balancing the day’s sales paperwork, rental space document & work schedules in place, businesses opened to greet their customers at 2:45. We closed up & cleaned up at 3:15. Another successful MarketPlace in the books!

Looking forward to Friday! Hope to see a lot of Talbot Hill Tiger smiling cheering faces as we car parade through our neighbor hoods! I sure have missed greeting most of our students at the beginning of each school day -- seeing smiling faces Friday will most certainly boost my spirits!

Talbot Hill's MicroSociety Green Garden employees did a lot of work prior to our school's closure in March and it's paying off now! Mrs. Kalnick (School Librarian and Green Garden facilitator) has been making sure the seeds they planted are thriving. With no MarketPlaces left to sell them at, each Wednesday we put out those starts ready for the garden for friends and neighbors to help themselves. This week we have red potatoes, lettuce, swiss chard, strawberries, calendula, and candy cane zinniaz. Stay tuned, next Wednesday there will be more! Enjoy! Stay safe! Hope to see everyone soon!
