Legacy Arts Academy

Legacy Arts Academy Art instruction by local artist and resident Kevin McPherson for children ages 2-12, and other specialized workshops for older students.

Legacy Arts Academy is designed to bring the influence and elements of art, instruction and principles of design to kids primarily ages 12 years and younger. Art education in Elementary School has been squeezed by budget short falls and the truth is that visual art has a significant impact on learning and early childhood development. I am currently working for the City of Renton in the Kennydale L

ions Park Building offering a series of classes to kids of our community. Small Hands on Art for toddlers and their grown-up, Creative Connections for pre-school age 3-5 and Kaleidoscope Kids for ages 6-12. Other classes are being held at Kennydale Elementary School, Friday mornings at 9:00 as part of their Enrichment program and Home Studio private art lessons.

Art, Education and the World around us.

With Sunflowers in bloom, their beauty and stature, the opportunity to create and to teach is inviting!
"What do you see? Why do you say that? What else do you see?" This opens up the dialog between the student, the artwork and the art docent.
Through this process of observation, kindergarten and 1st grade students are grasping math standards that reflect knowledge of sorting shapes, describing location of objects and making direct comparisons using measurable attributes such as length, weight and capacity.

Introducing visual art elements such as line, shape, texture and color begin to provide the tools to create, experience and discover multiple visual arts media.

Using everyday items and a few craft supplies, let's make a sunflower!
• 1 paper plate
• 1 paint stir stick
• yellow and green crepe paper
• yellow, light green, brown or any color tissue. paper
• glue stick
• glue
