A Wonderful End to Our Spring Quarter!
TCML FYCD 發一崇德臺灣華語文學習中心
Professional mandarin learning center for adults
06/16/2026
Time flies! Today marked the end of our Spring Quarter as we celebrated our Graduation Ceremony. It was truly heartwarming to see each student put so much effort into preparing their final presentations and confidently share their learning achievements in Mandarin.
Our Beginner 1B students used the vocabulary and sentence patterns they learned this quarter to clearly introduce their favorite activities and interests, demonstrating the solid progress they have made.
Our Beginner 2A students presented engaging and informative projects on cross-cultural comparisons. We learned that colors often carry similar symbolic meanings in both Taiwanese and Mexican cultures. We also discovered that, like Taiwanese people, Mexicans often give money as gifts. However, they do so in much more creative ways—such as arranging bills into beautiful bouquets or hiding them inside cakes—creating delightful surprises for the recipients!
In addition, students compared Taiwanese pot stickers and Polish pierogi, learning that pierogi are typically boiled before being pan-fried. Another group explored breakfast cultures and found that Taiwanese breakfasts offer a wide variety of both savory and sweet options, while Italian breakfasts are predominantly sweet, with very few savory choices. Every presentation was thoughtful, engaging, and full of interesting insights.
After the presentations, we held a Jeopardy-style trivia competition. The game featured 30 questions covering the Let’s Learn Mandarin curriculum, Taiwanese culture, and Chinese characters. The competition was exciting, challenging, and lots of fun, with students eagerly competing to answer the questions.
The prizes were TCML-FYCD Fall Quarter tuition discount coupons:
🥇 1st Place: $50
🥈 2nd Place: $30
🥉 3rd Place: $20
Thank you to all of our students for their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm throughout the quarter. We wish everyone a wonderful and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to seeing you again in the Fall Quarter
papercutting art
06/12/2026
Paper-cutting is a wonderful art form that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Today, our students had their very first experience with Chinese character paper-cutting. In addition to creating Chinese characters, they also explored the traditional art of decorative window paper-cuts.
Teacher Sue introduced the students to the unique symmetrical structure of the Chinese character “Spring” (春), showing them how it can be transformed into a beautiful three-dimensional decoration. The students were fascinated by the blend of creativity, design, and cultural meaning behind the artwork.
The class also designed their own triangular window paper-cuts inspired by traditional Eastern motifs. As they carefully cut and arranged their designs, they showcased remarkable imagination and artistic expression. Everyone had a wonderful time, and the students are already looking forward to their next paper-cutting lesson!
Tea, Culture, and Great News!

🍵✨ Tea, Culture, and Great News! ✨🍵
Tea culture is one of TCML-FYCD students’ favorite activities, and this Sunday’s tea gathering was filled with warm conversations, delicious Taiwanese tea, and tasty snacks.
We were delighted to welcome Ms. Joan from the Culture Center of TECOS in Bellevue, who helped introduce the Compatriot Card (i僑卡) and assisted students with their applications. Students were excited to learn that TCML learners are now eligible for the card and can enjoy discounts at participating businesses in Taiwan, and even some local favorites in the Seattle area, including Tofu 101, Tapioca Express, and Yong Tea!
After the quick and easy application process, everyone settled back in to enjoy Teacher Lynn’s engaging cultural presentation, accompanied by the aroma of tea and plenty of laughter.
Another memorable afternoon celebrating Taiwanese culture, friendship, and learning together. We can't wait for our next tea gathering! 🫖🌿💛

⚾🇹🇼 TCML-FYCD at Seattle Mariners Taiwanese Heritage Night! ⚾
On May 30, TCML-FYCD teachers and students joined thousands of fans at T-Mobile Park to celebrate Taiwanese Heritage Night with the Seattle Mariners!
Baseball is more than just a sport in Taiwan—it is an important part of Taiwanese culture and a source of pride that brings people together. Our students had the opportunity to experience the excitement of a live MLB game while learning about Taiwan’s deep connection to baseball and its unique cheering traditions.
The stadium was filled with energy as 2,500 fans proudly wore special edition Mariners jerseys featuring the Taiwan flag, a map of Taiwan, and “Taiwan 1” on the back. The celebration began with an exciting performance by Taiwan’s Rakuten Girls and FASCA members, bringing Taiwanese spirit and enthusiasm to Seattle!
In addition to enjoying the game, TCML-FYCD teachers hosted an outreach booth to introduce the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) to the local community. We were delighted to meet visitors from diverse backgrounds and share how learning Mandarin through Taiwan’s language and culture creates a meaningful and enriching experience.
At TCML-FYCD, we believe that language learning goes beyond the classroom. By connecting Mandarin education with authentic cultural experiences, we help students discover Taiwan’s vibrant culture, values, and traditions while building language skills.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and celebrated Taiwanese culture with us! We look forward to welcoming more learners to our TCML community.
