at Atterbury Job Corps Center, where Construction students are sharpening their skills while improving facilities at Johnson County Parks and Recreation.

Students from the Home Builders Institute - HBI Building Construction Technology and the Heavy Construction Equipment Operator trades installed split rail fencing throughout Johnson County Park. The new fencing will help improve safety, organization and overall functionality of key areas within the park.

The project allows students to practice their trade skills, along with other crucial skills such as teamwork and civic responsibility.

and helping Construction grads like Woodland Job Corps Center's Emory White supercharge his career with J.M. Mullen Electrical Services.

Emory recently received a pay raise to $20 an hour from $18 as a result of his focus and hard work.

Emory completed the Home Builders Institute - HBI Building Construction Technology and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades trades at Woodland, before enrolling in the Westover Job Corps Center Advanced HVAC program. He said aside from skills, Job Corps taught him the importance of repetition, adherence to rules and safety guidelines and daily routine.

"Simple habits like making my bed every morning and starting the day early helped me build discipline and a strong work ethic," he said.

His success has allowed him to purchase a new car and even earn the responsibility to drive the company truck.

"Get as much hands-on experience as possible, ask questions and take every opportunity to learn from your instructors and coworkers," Emory advised future students.
