In NURS 170, students recently stepped outside their comfort zones to better understand the challenges many patients face every day.
Under the guidance of instructor Gay Lutz, students participated in hands-on simulations designed to simulate sensory and physical limitations. From navigating spaces while blindfolded to communicating with impaired speech to attempting fine-motor tasks without full sensation—each exercise offered a powerful glimpse into the patient experience.
These moments go beyond clinical skills. They build empathy, patience, and a deeper awareness of what compassionate care truly means.
