Thanks to our incredible community partner, Reno Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO), our Upward Bound students traded desks for snowshoes and headed to Chickadee Ridge for a day of exploration, connection, and challenge.
From navigating snowy trails to taking in breathtaking views, students built confidence, resilience, and community — skills that go far beyond academics.
Experiences like this expand what’s possible, reminding our students that growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone… and sometimes, into the snow.
🌲 Thank you, , for creating opportunities that inspire, empower, and connect our students to the world around them.

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
At Upward Bound, we believe every student has something powerful to offer, and this is the year to discover it.
Through tutoring, leadership opportunities, college exploration, and community experiences, our students don’t just prepare for college — they grow into who they’re meant to become.
Because success isn’t just about what you achieve… it’s about how you show up for others along the way.

While in Washington, D.C., our UB/UBMS students stepped beyond the classroom and into the story of our nation.
From the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument, students explored the National Mall, experiencing the landmarks that shape our country’s history, values, and identity.
🌟 Through this experience, students:
• Connected classroom learning to real-world history
• Reflected on the legacy of leadership and civic responsibility
• Gained a deeper understanding of the past to help shape their future
Moments like these remind us that education goes beyond textbooks; it’s about seeing, experiencing, and understanding the world around you.

During their time in Washington, D.C., our four UB/UBMS students didn’t just visit — they represented.
They stood on behalf of Nevada’s 7,825 TRIO participants, meeting with the offices of every member of our congressional delegation — including both U.S. Senators and Representatives.
đź’Ľ In each meeting, students:
• Shared their educational journeys through TRIO
• Engaged in meaningful conversations about college access and opportunity
• Demonstrated why
We extend our sincere appreciation to Nevada’s federal delegation for taking the time to meet with our students and for their continued support of educational opportunity programs like TRIO. We are especially proud to highlight that Congressman Steven Horsford is a University of Nevada, Reno TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) alumnus, exemplifying the lasting impact of these programs.
This experience deepens students’ understanding of how education and policy intersect, and reinforces the power of their stories.

Upward Bound students took their learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of our nation’s capital — Washington, D.C.
Through this experience, students explored the U.S. Capitol, learned how the legislative process works, and met directly with congressional representatives to advocate for issues that matter to them.
This is what college and career readiness looks like — building knowledge, confidence, and a voice in shaping the future. 💼✨
At Upward Bound, we don’t just prepare students for college — we prepare them to lead, serve, and make an impact.

🎓 Happy National First-Generation College Celebration Day! 💙
Today, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and determination of first-generation college students — the trailblazers who are redefining what’s possible for themselves, their families, and their communities.
We also honor the signing of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Higher Education Act of 1965, which created programs like TRIO to make college possible for all.
Upward Bound is proud to stand alongside first-gen scholars who turn obstacles into opportunities, and dreams into degrees. 🌟
Every first-gen story matters. Every first-gen success inspires the next.
