Congressional candidate Teresa Benitez‑Thompson visited campus today to meet with Upper School students right as they begin their politics and history curriculum. Her visit gave students the chance to take what they’re learning in class and apply it to real policy conversations with someone who works directly in government.

They asked about data centers and AI, women’s health, teen drug use and support, and how Nevada’s District 27 representative serves the community at the state and national level.

Thank you to Teresa Benitez-Thompson for spending time with the next generation of voters.

Grade 6 students continued their exploration of Earth’s place in the universe by modeling the phases of the moon with the power of the Oreo. Using each cookie to represent a different lunar phase, they built a clear understanding of the lunar cycle and how the moon’s appearance changes over time. With this foundation, students can now make predictions for the timing of key phases in upcoming cycles.

Upper School science students jumped right into hands‑on learning this week. AP Environmental Science explored the Tragedy of the Commons and set up mung bean investigations, Chemistry classes used conservation of mass experiments to debunk the phlogiston theory, and AP Chemistry applied Beer’s Law to determine dye concentration in a sports drink. Engineering students also took on the Can You Canoe? challenge, designing and testing miniature canoes as an introduction to the design process.
