Coyote Pride - Week of 10/13/25 10/08/2025

This week, we celebrate and thank Mr. David Frydman for his incredible leadership and dedication to the Desert Heights community over the past five and a half years.

Under his guidance, our school has grown stronger in every way — from expanding student supports and deepening inclusion, to strengthening family partnerships and building a culture rooted in our H.O.W.L. values: Have Respect, Own Your Actions and Choices, Work to Succeed, and Learn by Leading.

Mr. Frydman’s last day as principal will be Friday, October 17th, but his impact will continue to be felt for years to come. His passion for students, staff, and families has shaped Desert Heights into the connected, caring community we are today.

Thank you, Mr. Frydman, for your leadership, heart, and commitment to our Coyotes. 💜

Once a Coyote, always a Coyote. 🐾

Our Coyotes are learning and growing every day!

🐾 Ms. Brock’s Strategies Class: Students sang songs about the months, counted together, worked with calendar pieces, and dressed the weather kangaroo—each showing their learning in unique ways.

🔢 Ms. Daniels’ Kindergarten: Students practiced counting up to 10 with excitement and confidence.

❤️ Ms. Sachs’ Kindergarten: Students showed the number 10 in creative ways—drawing triangles, circles, hearts—and then writing the two-digit number 10.

Coyote Pride - Week of 09/15/25 09/12/2025

This week, our classrooms at Desert Heights Elementary School have been full of energy, curiosity, and learning! ✨

Here are just a few of the amazing things I saw:

🧮 Counting objects in groups in Ms. Daniels’ class

📝 Blending sounds into words like gum, sum, hum in Ms. Jones’ class

🎧 Putting sounds together to make words like cat, map, sun in Ms. Neumann’s class

✍️ Fixing mixed-up sentences in Ms. Erickson’s class (“jumped fence the cat” → “The cat jumped the fence”)

✏️ Writing letters and words in Ms. Lawrence’s class

🔢 Using place value blocks to compare numbers in Ms. Babb’s class

💡 Breaking apart numbers in Ms. Cleven’s class

💭 Decomposing numbers (234 = 200 + 30 + 4) in Ms. Kincaid’s class

Our students are working hard, supporting each other, and showing what it means to HOWL—Have Respect, Own their actions, Work to succeed, and Learn by leading! 🐾

💬 Ask your child what they learned this week—you’ll be amazed at their growth! When families and schools partner together, kids thrive. 💛-

We had such a great turnout at Watch D.O.G./M.O.M. Night—thank you to all the families who came out to learn more about volunteering at our school. Your support makes a big difference for our students! 🐺💙

📸 Fall Picture Day is coming up on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
✨ This will be a Free Dress Day—no uniforms required (please choose school-appropriate attire).
👉 Families can prepay online at bellphoto.com
using code DesertHeightsES2526.
🕘 A sensory-friendly session will be held at 9:00 AM.

In the classroom this week, our 5th graders were busy exploring science concepts like:
🌍 “I am learning to explain how Earth’s tilt and revolution cause the seasons.”
☀️ “I am learning to explain how Earth’s rotation causes day/night and sunlight changes.”

We’re so proud of the learning and community spirit happening every day at Desert Heights! 💫

Coyote Pride - Week of 09/01/25 08/29/2025

Starting next week, teachers will no longer line students up outside in the mornings. Instead, school doors will open at 9:15 AM, and students can go straight to their classrooms. This change gives students more time for breakfast and to jump right into their morning learning tasks.

👉 Dismissal will stay the same—teachers will continue meeting families outside at their lineup dots.

This week, I got to see some amazing learning across our school:
✨ Mr. McMillan’s students explored constants and variables in science.
✨ Ms. Gonzalez’s kindergartners practiced writing their names and counting objects to 5.
✨ Ms. Sinocruz’s class discovered how the earth’s rotation changes shadows.

We also held a fire drill on Friday, and our students did a fantastic job showing they know what to do in an emergency.

👏 Thank you for your support in making Desert Heights such a strong and caring community!
🇺🇸 Just a reminder—no school on Monday in honor of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend with your families!

🌟🐾 What a Wonderful Start for Our New Coyotes! 🐾🌟

Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our New Family Breakfast today! It was such a joy to welcome our newest Kindergarten Coyotes into the Desert Heights family. 💙

Like any first day, we had a few tears as students missed their parents, but our teachers worked their magic—redirecting and engaging them in fun learning activities. I loved seeing:
🍎 Ms. Gonzalez’s class practicing cafeteria expectations,
🎨 Ms. Sachs’s students building with Playdough and puzzles, and
✏️ Ms. Daniels’s class already diving into letters and numbers!

Every student was safe, cared for, and supported—and we couldn’t be more excited to begin this journey with them.

For those who weren’t able to attend the breakfast, we’ve attached a copy of the presentation so you don’t miss out on the important information.

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead with our Kindergarten Coyotes! 🐾💙

Coyote Pride - Week of 08/18/25 08/16/2025

🎉 What an amazing first week at Desert Heights! Our students are already showing their Coyote pride by learning our H.O.W.L. expectations: Have Respect, Own Your Actions, Work to Succeed, and Learn by Leading. 🐾

Teachers spent time teaching and practicing these expectations, and Ms. Thayer and Mr. Frydman led assemblies to model what they look like across campus. 💡

We’ve also already jumped into learning! Ms. Parrish’s class tackled a math challenge that had them problem-solving and thinking critically from day one.

We can’t wait to welcome our kindergarten Coyotes on Monday and keep the excitement going! 💛💙
