In celebration of AVA Week 2026, NAVTA is proud to spotlight the Truckee Meadows Community College Veterinary Assisting Program in Reno, Nevada!

NAVTA approved the program in 2023, and it has continued to grow by preparing students with hands-on, interactive learning and real-world experience. From laboratory work at a local animal shelter to simulated veterinary appointments, students build practical skills in patient care, client communication, nursing assistantship, surgical assistantship, imaging, and more.

As Julie McMahon, LVT, Program Director, shared: “We are very proud of our VA program…it stands out because it combines hands-on, interactive learning with real-world experience.”

This AVA Week, we celebrate programs like TMCC that are helping prepare the next generation of skilled, compassionate veterinary assistants.
