University of Nevada, Reno Balloon Race Scholarship Committee Committee created to support the University in it's sponsorship of the Great Reno Balloon Race. Als Committee committement includes:

Attend meetings.

The University Balloon Race Scholarship Committee has awarded scholarship funds since the early 1990's and distributed a total of $2,000 in scholarships to students each year since 1999. The Committee is open to UNR students, faculty and staff, and members of the community who wish to serve. Scholarship Information
With the generous support of the campus community, the Balloon Race Scholarship Committee has been able to raise funds through ticket and pin sales to award two scholarships (one graduate and one undergraduate) yearly to deserving students. Students are selected based on financial need, community service and the following additional criteria:
Additional Undergraduate Criteria
Graduate of a Nevada High School
At least a Sophomore standing
Minimum of one (1) full year (fall & spring semester) of undergraduate work left
A minimum GPA of 3.25

Additional Graduate Criteria
Admitted to Graduate Standing
Completed twelve (12) credit hours of graduate level work at UNR
Presently enrolled in six (6) or more graduate credits
Minimum GPA of 3.0


Committee Responsibilities
The Balloon Race Committee is looking for new members to help make a difference for university students. The committee meets monthly from March through June, bi-monthly in July and weekly in August
Assist in design of the University Balloon Race Scholarship Committee pin
Help select scholarship awardees
Solicit donations from the local community through personal contacts
Sell pins and tickets for raffle items
Volunteer at the balloon races either at the University’s booth or crewing for the University’s balloon
