Well, it’s official - the ranch is up for sale. We have so many memories here but it’s time to move on and create some new ones. What a blessing this place has been for our family!

Thank you all dear friends for the warm birthday wishes. I am so blessed to know you all. Had a nice day and great dinner with family. Topped off with a fabulous pecan pie made from scratch by my beautiful daughter-in-law Dakota!

Just wanted to share this information about a Dutch oven cook off in Eureka in September. Dust off those ovens and come out to participate! Here are the details:

Our last Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive as the Wrangler Boss and the Dutch Diva. Doesn’t get much better than dancing to the Campfire Waltz with Dave Stamey at our camp in Winnemucca Ranch. We have been so blessed to be a part of this event!

Last night the grandkids and I were watching Chopped. They must have been inspired because this morning they had breakfast ready for us complete with name place cards. It was delicious and I give them an “A” for presentation!

On our way home from a very relaxing hot springs trip at Fish Lake Valley Hot Springs and Benton Hot Springs. Timed it perfectly - beautiful full moon on both nights.

Had such a fun day with Dave and Luanne on Friday at the Grass Valley craft fair. Got to catch up with Michael and Michelle Norton and our dear friend Sandy.

When you live on a ranch, it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. So this is retirement? At least I have my trusty companions! Seriously it’s a blessed life even on these muddy days.

Starting week 3 of retirement. Last week I spent on a Mexican cruise with 2 dear friends. It was snowing when we left and snowed even more when we got home! This morning I fed the horses and broke ice on all the water troughs then had a cup of coffee close to the wood stove to warm up. If we ever built another house (and I doubt that will happen), I would build an indoor kitchen fireplace like this. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

We’ll, it’s the first week of retirement. In searching for something today in my home office I ran across these photos. When I’m asked how did I start cooking in a Dutch oven I explain that we lived up in the mountains off the grid before that became a “thing”. This is one of the few photos I have cooking a venison stew over the fire when we were first married 43 years ago. The photo with the dog was our Lab Poca short for Pocahontas. She was our dog with 9 lives - she survived a rattlesnake bite, porcupine encounter and was even shot and had to be sewn back together. She lived a full life even after all that. This is what my amazing husband looked like - truly a mountain man. We look a bit different now but he’s still my hero.
