For 40+ years, the May Arboretum Society has worked behind the scenes to support the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden, one of Northern Nevada’s most beloved public spaces.

We’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to stewardship, education, and preservation. Our members, donors, and volunteers have helped fund everything from irrigation improvements and garden expansion to third-grade pollinator programs and free field trips for Title I schools.

Our vision is simple: ensure the Arboretum has the resources it needs to become a world-class destination for generations to come.

Join us for the May Arboretum Society 2026 Gala on June 13 and help support the stewardship, education, and preservation work that keeps the Arboretum growing.

If you ever walked the Arboretum with Rod Haulenbeek, you know…

You know how a quick walk somehow turned into two hours because Rod spotted something most people would never notice.

A strange bark pattern.

A tree tucked in a corner nobody paid attention to.

A species with a story attached to it.

After spending time with Rod, you started looking up more. Asking questions. Paying attention to the living things around you.

That’s part of why this year’s gala means so much to us.

On June 13, we’ll honor Rod’s legacy and introduce the Tree Hunter Collection, a living tribute that will bring new and remarkable tree specimens to the Arboretum for future generations to discover.

Rod believed trees were treasures.

We think he was right.
