Lake Tahoe Northern Lights from Zephyr Point taken by Jeannie Sherrick Friday night. A strong geomagnetic storm from the sun continues and we should be able to see the aurora borealis around our region again tonight! Thanks to all of you for the great photos. This is amazing! From our photo contest manager, Jonathan Sokol - Thank you photographers for your submissions to last month's contest! Another month of fantastic photos of wonderful birds! The board has voted, and the April 2024 Photo of the Month is Brian Meltzner's hungry pair, a Double-crested Cormorant chasing down a Common Merganser for its catch. Congratulations, Brian!

This one’s for you, Mark Vollmer.
Remember - Thursday, June 1, is the deadline for submissions for the 2024 Wild Nevada Calendar!
We're looking for:
📸 Any wild-looking federally managed public lands in Nevada. This calendar celebrates designated wilderness areas, areas that are proposed for wilderness designations (BLM Wilderness Study Areas and Forest Service Roadless Areas), and areas with wilderness characteristics (such as BLM Lands with Wilderness Characteristics). Check out the Explore tab on our website for a list of Wild Nevada places!
📸 Seasons (spring wildflowers, fall colors, snow scenes)
📸 Photos with or without people. In terms of photographs with people, we look for those enjoying/exploring Nevada’s wild landscapes (hiking, skiing, hunting, camping, etc.)
📸 Regional photos. We need images from across the state—north to south and east to west (especially more remote places in central, eastern and northern NV.)
📸 Wildlife and macro photography
📸 Strong horizontal scenic, macro, or wildlife shots to fill the empty squares in each month
Visit www.nevadawilderness.org/wildnevadacalendar for submission instructions.
