TMCC continues to keep everyone affected by the Hawk Fire in our thoughts. While containment has improved and some evacuation areas have been lifted, active evacuation zones remain in effect, power outages continue and K–12 school closures will continue tomorrow.

Due to the continued displacement of many of our students and employees, all TMCC campus operations at all locations will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 25.

There will be no in-person or online classes and no in-person or remote work, except emergency services teams and supervisors.

TMCC will continue to monitor conditions and share additional information as it becomes available.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tribal Chairman Arlan D. Melendez, a visionary leader whose legacy is forever part of the TMCC story.

As a proud TMCC alumnus, Chairman Melendez often spoke about how his education helped lay the groundwork for his decades of service as Chairman of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. His unwavering advocacy for Native communities and commitment to justice left an indelible mark—across the region and right here at TMCC.

In 2022, we were honored to present him with the President’s Medal, our highest recognition, in celebration of his lifelong dedication to education, equity, and public service.

Chairman Melendez’s life and leadership will continue to inspire our Lizard family for generations to come. 🕊️

We’re thrilled to share that Dr. Jeffrey Alexander has been named the next President of Truckee Meadows Community College, officially approved today by the Nevada System of Higher Education! 🎉🎉

Dr. Alexander brings years of experience and a passion for student success, innovation, and community partnerships. He starts his new role on July 1, just in time for big projects like EastView Theater, the Fire Rescue Training Facility, and women’s volleyball at TMCC!
