On August 10th, 11th, and 12th the Hike Around a Lake club, consisting of 5th-7th graders, spent some quality time in nature. Monday they explored Moss Lake in Big Moose and had the opportunity to spend time climbing rocks and building dams. On Tuesday, we went to Nick's Lake in Old Forge where we hiked over 4 miles to end up at a beautiful beach. Wednesday, we traveled to Green Lakes State Park in Manlius to hike around two small meromictic lakes: Green Lake and Round Lake. All of the students did a great job hiking. Thank you to Mrs. Piaschyk, Mrs. Provost and Mrs. Carino for taking the students on these fun adventures.

The Remsen STEAM Camp was treated to amazing balloon walk experience from Dwight Cramer, from Airborne Adventures Ballooning in Munnsville, NY. Students learned about optimal weather conditions and mechanics of flying a hot air balloon. After the lesson, students walked into another world and went inside the actual seven story high balloon!

A balloon walk consists of a hot air balloon that is anchored at the top end and at the bottom end and inflated with cold air by the use of an inflation fan. Rather than standing the balloon with air that is heated by a burner, the balloon is kept inflated by the cold air. A large heavy mat is placed at the opening where students were able to take their shoes off and enter the balloon. Inside they were also treated to large inflatable balls to be able to play and enjoy the atmosphere.
