📊 Vikings Continue to Outpace State & National SAT Averages!

Lowndes High School’s Class of 2026 posted an average SAT score of 1082, surpassing Georgia's average of 1031 and the national average of 1011!

Our Vikings also outperformed state and national averages in both sections of the SAT:

📚 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing: 551
(26 points above Georgia | 36 points above the nation)

➗ Math: 531
( 25 points above Georgia | 35 points above the nation)

These results reflect our students' preparation, determination, and hard work, along with the teachers and families who support them along the way.

🎉 Happy Principals Month!

We appreciate the work our principals put in each day to support their students, staff, and school communities.

To give you a little glimpse into their day-to-day, we asked each principal to send us photos throughout their day. From classrooms and car lines to meetings, events, and everything in between, take a look at where their days look alike—and where they’re a little different!

Take a look into the days of Melanie Johnson (Westside Elementary School), Maggie Moody (Clyattville Elementary School), and Al Swilley (Lowndes Middle School).

🕕 6:00 AM
Johnson: Catching up on emails & getting organized
Moody: Waving goodbye to her family as she heads to work
Swilley: Checking emails & preparing for the day

🕗 8:00 AM
Johnson: Greeting students as they arrive on the bus
Moody: Playing the morning music & making announcements
Swilley: Greeting students as they arrive & get settled into class

🕛 12:00 PM

Moody: Learning, too! Diving into funding & budgeting with district leaders
Swilley: Stopping by classrooms to see what students are working on

🕑 2:00 PM
Johnson: Delivering Positive Office Referrals to students showing the Westside Way — one of her favorite parts of the day!
Moody: Celebrating student achievements
Swilley: Walking the building & connecting with students in the Media Center Maker Space

🕓 4:00 PM
Johnson: Joining teachers for PLC meetings to discuss data, instruction & student learning
Moody: Meeting with administrators

Get to Know Our Lowndes County Schools Teacher of the Year, Amy Whitehead! You heard her name announced at Convocation, but there’s a lot more to know about the educator behind the honor.

From helping students discover that they really can do math to coaching on the soccer field, serving her community and even helping local pets, Mrs. Whitehead has spent nearly two decades making an impact at Lowndes High School.

📐 Current Role: Math Instructional Lead Teacher at Lowndes High School
🎓 College Alma Mater: Valdosta State University (Bachelor's) & Thomas University (Master's)
🏫 Viking Since: She completed her student teaching at LHS, then came back as a teacher and never left!
➗ Subjects Taught: Algebra through AP Statistics
💡 Teaching Philosophy: The answer matters, but so does the process it takes to get there.
⚽ Beyond the Classroom: Ninth-Grade Girls Soccer Coach, Class Sponsor, Friends Fur Life Sponsor, Shop With A Viking, etc.

Whether she’s breaking down a difficult math problem, encouraging a student to try again, coaching a young athlete, or helping students find a place where they belong, Mrs. Whitehead believes growth happens when students are willing to take that next step.

And after all these years at Lowndes High, she still knows she landed exactly where she belongs:
“This is exactly where I am supposed to be.”

Congratulations again to our Lowndes County Schools Teacher of the Year, Amy Whitehead!
