WALK. JOG. RUN. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Last week at Florida International University, athletic trainers from both FIU and FAU came together for a hands-on day of Emergency Sports Medicine training.

✅ WALK: Participants arrived having already completed their online coursework, building the knowledge needed before stepping into the practical sessions.

✅ JOG: The afternoon kicked off with skill rotations led by Darryl Conway, Jenna Turner, and Jon Glover, giving attendees the opportunity to practice and refine critical emergency response techniques.

✅ RUN: The day wrapped up with realistic, scenario-based simulations inspired by actual emergencies encountered in the sports medicine world—challenging teams to think critically, communicate effectively, and respond with confidence.

Preparation doesn’t start when an emergency happens—it starts long before. Thank you to everyone from FIU and FAU who invested in sharpening these lifesaving skills.

🔔 Counting down to Philly! Who else is heading to the 77th NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo next week? 🩺✈️

This year’s lineup looks incredible, but two massive focus areas have caught our attention:

💤 The Sleep Track: Deep diving into sleep as the ultimate, underutilized performance enhancer and recovery tool.

🚀 The Entrepreneurship Track: Highlighting how ATs are breaking into emerging settings, corporate wellness, and independent consulting.

Whether you're heading to the Convention Center for the day or for the whole event, it’s a huge moment for our profession to collaborate and level up.

Be sure to check out our very own Ed Strapp and Darryl Conway on Wednesday July 1 from 9-11 for a deep dive into the Heart of the Game: Cardiac Arrest Response in the Equipment-Laden Athlete. Stay tuned for more as we grow together in the birthplace of independence! Shout out if you'll be there! 👇

⌚️ Data is a compass, not a high score. (Tell that to my Garmin)

Wearable technology is officially named the #1 fitness and wellness trend, but the conversation in sports medicine has completely shifted. We aren't just tracking steps anymore—we are looking at Heart Rate Variability (HRV), sleep disruptions, and real-time stress responses to flag overtraining before it becomes an injury.

As athletic trainers and sports med professionals, our job is helping athletes cut through the noise of their smartwatches. A low HRV morning shouldn’t mean "skip the gym"—it means "let’s pivot to a high-quality mobility and zone 2 aerobic recovery day."

🛠️ Quick Tip: How do you integrate your athletes' wearable data into their daily training modifications?
