Williamsburg Elementary School

Williamsburg Elementary School Williamsburg Elementary is a rural, community school in the southeastern corner of Rockingham County. Also housed in the building is one Head Start classroom.

There are approximately 501 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. In addition, there is one pre-school classroom funded by Rockingham County Schools. As a Title I school, Williamsburg receives additional federal funds to provide extra instructional support for the students. This funding makes it possible to reduce class size in many of the grade levels which helps the students receive mor

e individualized assistance. When the new building opened in 2003, personnel from many different schools came together to form the new Williamsburg School. These dedicated, well-qualified individuals work together to provide a stable learning environment for the children of Williamsburg School.

Good evening, Williamsburg families!

I wanted to provide some information about Beginning-of-Year (BOY) testing that you may hear your student talk about. We are currently beginning our diagnostic testing in both math (i-Ready) and reading (mClass).

The purpose of diagnostic testing is to provide teachers with information about each student’s current level of learning. Teachers use this information to help guide their instruction and determine how best to support each student’s learning needs.

We need our students to try their best on these assessments so that we can accurately identify where they need support and how best to provide it.

We will complete these assessments several times throughout the school year so teachers can monitor student progress and adjust instruction and support as needed.

If you have any questions about these diagnostic assessments, please contact your student’s teacher.

Thank you, and have a great evening!

Mark your calendars…

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with your weekly updates.

Thank you for a great first week of school! We are excited for a great year at Williamsburg! Please make sure you review all paperwork sent home with your student this week and return it to school. If you plan to volunteer or chaperone a field trip, you will need to complete a background check. A QR code was sent home with the link to the background check website. It is a good idea to complete background checks now. Background checks are good for two years and cover all students you have at Williamsburg.

Our PTA will meet Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Come out and join our PTA as we work together to support our students and teachers.

🍫 Candy Bar Fundraiser
We will be kicking off our candy bar fundraiser on September 10, with a pre-sale option beginning September 2.

If you choose to participate in the pre-sale, please return the permission slip your student will receive by September 2. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday.

Students can earn prizes by selling chocolate bars. The prizes are listed on the permission slip.

Even if you do not participate in the pre-sale, you will still need to return the permission slip.

If your student is a bus rider, you will need to pick up the chocolate from the front office during the school day between 7:20 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Candy money should be sent in with your child in the envelope provided so their teacher can collect it, or you can bring it to the front office.

🍎 Child Nutrition Updates
All RCS students can eat breakfast and lunch for free.

Because we receive federal funds for our child nutrition program, outside food (such as McDonald's nuggets) cannot be sent in a bag or container that advertises the restaurant. Please place these items in another bag or container.

Thank you for your cooperation with this requirement.

🚗 Arrival & Dismissal Updates
Our doors open at 7:20 a.m. for student drop-off.

All students, with the exception of Head Start and Pre-K, should be dropped off in the car rider line this week. Please do not walk students across unless you need to come into the school.

To the extent possible, please have your student enter and exit your vehicle from the sidewalk side.

Please make sure your child is ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at school in the morning.

Please do not pass cars in the drop-off line unless directed to do so by a staff member. Please maintain a safe, slow speed while on campus.

In the afternoon, we do not allow student check-outs after 2:15 p.m.

Please do not double-line until you turn into our upper parking lot. Double-lining near the highway makes the use of the left-turn lane out of school dangerous.

Our car rider dismissal will continue to get quicker as we move further into the school year. Please be patient as our Kindergarten students are still learning these new procedures.

If you need to buckle your student or make an adjustment to their seating arrangement, please pull into our parking lot rather than stopping in the car rider line.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal.

🚌 Bus Rider Updates
Please be patient as our Kindergarten students begin riding buses this week and bus times may continue to adjust.

Check the bus app to see when the bus is nearby. Parents, please make sure you are at the bus stop with your student in the morning and waiting for them at the stop in the afternoon.

📅 Upcoming Events
9/17: Title I Event: Partnering with Purpose, followed by chaperone training for those who wish to chaperone field trips.

9/22: PTA Night at Pete's Burgers and More

9/26: PTA Harvest Festival

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Williamsburg Elementary at 336-349-4632.

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with a few reminders for our Kindergarten families only.

Kindergarten families, please take note of the following important reminders:

Thursday, 8/27: No Kindergarten students will attend school. Kindergarten families will receive a message from their student’s teacher sometime during the day on Thursday.

We will also have a Kindergarten Open House for Kindergarten families only from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Friday, 8/28: All Kindergarten students will attend school as normal.

We look forward to seeing our Kindergarten Wildcats on Friday! 🐾

Kindergarten parents, please note the following:

North Carolina law requires all newly enrolled kindergarten students to have a completed health assessment (physical) and up-to-date immunization records on file at school by the 30th day after enrollment. Documentation of these requirements must be submitted to the school by September 22, 2026, to avoid being excluded from school after the deadline.

The blue health assessment form was included in your child’s kindergarten enrollment packet and must be completed and signed by a licensed healthcare provider. If your child has had a wellness visit within the 12 months prior to the first day of school, that visit may be documented on the form and accepted.

If your child has not yet completed these requirements, please schedule an appointment as soon as possible with your child’s healthcare provider or the Rockingham County Health Department. For questions or additional information, please contact your school nurse.

Thank you and have a great evening!

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with a few updates and reminders.

We had a great first day of school! Staff, students, and parents—thank you for making it such a successful first day!

Parents/Guardians: Your student will be bringing home quite a few papers for you to review and/or sign. Please make sure you take a moment to review all of the information. The student information sheet ensures that we have accurate contact information for your student and allows you to identify who is authorized to check your student out of school.

You also received information about the district’s volunteer policy and the link to our background check program. If you plan to volunteer or chaperone a field trip, you must have a background check completed. Please complete this process early to ensure it is approved in time for any volunteer opportunities or field trips.

If you received a car rider tag, please make sure you place it on the passenger-side dashboard. This will help us expedite the car rider line in the afternoon.

Again, please be patient with our buses as new bus requests and changes may affect stop times during the first few weeks of school. New bus requests can take several days to be approved, especially at the beginning of the school year. Please make sure you have communicated with your student’s teacher regarding how your student will be getting home.

A reminder that only Kindergarten parents may continue to walk their students into school this week. All 1st–5th grade students should be dropped off in the car rider line.

Again, thank you for helping make today a great first day of school! Have a great evening, Wildcats! 🐾

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with your weekly updates.

The first day of school is finally here, and we can’t wait to see all of our Wildcats tomorrow! We had a great Open House, and we are looking forward to having our Wildcats back in the building!

Parents, I have shared several important updates on Dojo this week, so please take a moment to review those messages. I want to give you a few brief reminders:

Doors open for students at 7:20. Parents may walk their students to their classroom tomorrow only. Kindergarten parents may walk their student in on their staggered entry day and on Friday. Just a reminder—this is a quick drop-off opportunity as we will be starting our school day as normal.

Buses may run behind during the first week or two. Please be patient with our bus drivers and transportation staff. Make sure you are with your student at the bus stop in the morning and waiting for them at the stop in the afternoon.

We no longer allow metal water bottles. Our PTA will be selling water bottles in the morning for anyone who missed the opportunity to purchase one at Open House.

Phones, smart watches, and smart glasses are not allowed.

We do not allow student check-outs after 2:15. We also do not allow parents to walk up and pick up their students. Please use the car rider line, and your student will be brought to the cone where you are directed.

You should now be connected with your student’s teacher on Dojo.

Spirit Week is aligned with our ROAR Expectations:
Monday: Dress for Success
Tuesday: Wear neon or bright colors
Wednesday: Wear your favorite college or dress for your career
Thursday: Step Up and Make Responsible Decisions in Your Favorite Sneakers
Friday: Wildcat Pride: Wear blue and gold

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Williamsburg Elementary at 336-349-4632.

I look forward to a great first day of school tomorrow! We hope to see you excited and ready to start a new school year. And remember—at Williamsburg, we’re ROARing Together for Success!
