We are so excited to reintroduce Holly Reid, our wonderful Director of Admissions! 💙

For many of our families, Mrs. Holly is one of the very first friendly faces they meet at Freedom Academy. From answering those first questions and scheduling family interviews to helping families navigate documents and next steps, she makes the admissions process feel welcoming, organized, and easy from the very beginning.

Mrs. Holly has an incredible gift for keeping every detail in order while making each family feel genuinely cared for along the way. Her dedication, kindness, and attention to detail mean so much to our school community, and we are incredibly thankful to have her on our team!

Hello, Freedom Family! My name is Holly Reid, and I am blessed to already know many of you! For those I haven’t yet met, I am a Rockingham County native! My husband, Matt, and I have been married for 25 years, and we have one daughter, Reagan, who will be a junior this fall at Freedom Academy.

Our family was fortunate to have Freedom open its doors right on time! I felt the Lord leading us here, initially for Reagan. She has loved every year she has spent at Freedom, and it has been a blessing for me as well. Before joining my friends at Freedom, I spent 25 years in the dental field as a surgical/dental assistant. I love taking care of people and making them feel at ease. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and gardening! I cherish recipes that have been passed down, and I am always up for the challenge of recreating a copycat recipe from any good restaurant! Oh, and the beach calls to me!

After leaving the dental field, I attempted to be a stay-at-home mom but was soon lured into the Freedom Family! I began working in preschool at Freedom, and now I will be transitioning to working full-time as the Director of Admissions. I’m so grateful that God led me to Freedom Academy!

I’m looking forward to all the wonderful things God has planned for our family at Freedom!

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23–24

Let’s talk about a person who holds EVERYTHING together: Mrs. Tabetha Apple! In her role as Director of Academy Relations, Tabetha showers love on every single member of the Freedom family. Everyone who knows her loves her, and she truly has a beautiful soul.

Hello, Freedom Family!

I can hardly believe that this will be my fifth year at Freedom Academy as the Director of Academy Relations. They say time flies when you are having fun. 😊 I truly love my role at Freedom Academy and consider it a blessing to have been led here.

I get to engage in a wide variety of activities—from assisting in the office with administrative duties to helping our amazing teachers, students, families, PTO, and founders with whatever may arise. I am so very blessed to be able to simply love on people each and every day and help them in any way that I can.

My heart has always been to serve others in the most Jesus-like way possible and to be His hands and feet, and I strive to do this every day. I also get a firsthand view of how the Lord is working in the lives of our Patriots as they grow and develop. Please believe me when I say that He is working in mighty ways every single day at Freedom Academy!

To share a little about myself, I was born and raised in Reidsville. I attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where I received my B.A. in Communications, followed by a master’s degree in Education from UNC-Greensboro. I have taught multiple grade levels and served as the Middle School Coordinator for a scholars program. Additionally, I worked for several years as the District Administrator for the Guardian ad Litem Program in our judicial system, as well as the Administrative Director and Financial Assistant for the United Way of Rockingham County.

I have one son, Caleb, who currently works as a welder at John Deere Corporation. I also have three cats 🐾🐾🐾 who run the show at home—and yes, some people call me “the crazy cat lady!” 😂 I love spending time with friends and family and traveling whenever I can, especially to the beach. 🏖️

I can hardly wait to see all that the Lord has in store for Freedom Academy and our Freedom family this year. I can only imagine the blessings He has prepared! His plans seem to grow bigger each year, but we know that our God can and will do immeasurably more than we could ever begin to imagine. He is certainly doing just that at Freedom Academy!

Looking forward to seeing you soon, Freedom Family!!

From dual enrollment and career opportunities to counseling and emotional support, she is a trusted resource for our students as they grow academically, personally, and spiritually.

Hello, Freedom family!

I am so excited to be starting my second year as Freedom Academy’s school counselor! I have worked in Rockingham County for 30 years, serving as a school counselor with Rockingham County Schools and as a counselor with Youth Services, HELP Inc., Rockingham County Mental Health, and the Rockingham County Health Department.

I am a proud native of Rockingham County and have been married to my husband for many years. We have a daughter who attends UNC-Chapel Hill. I also own a college advising business, and I am excited to continue helping our Freedom high school students become career- and college-ready.

I attend Osborne Baptist Church, and I am grateful for what God is doing at Freedom Academy. It is a blessing to be part of the school’s mission and to serve our students and families as we work together to help them grow academically, personally, and spiritually.

We are so excited to welcome Mrs. Kristi back to Freedom Academy! She continues to bring so much heart to our music program. Through music, she helps our students grow in confidence, creativity, and their love for praising the Lord. We are truly thankful to have her sharing her gifts with our Freedom Family once again!

Hello, Freedom Family!

My name is Kristi Gusler, and I have the joy of teaching music at Freedom Academy!

I am a Rockingham County native and have been married to my husband, Jeff, for six wonderful years. We have two beautiful children, Skylar (4) and Tanner (3). Our family attends Mount Carmel Global Methodist Church, where I serve as the choir director.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time at the beach, being out on our boat, and making memories with family and friends.

This school year marks my second year teaching music at Freedom Academy, and I truly feel blessed to be part of such an incredible school community. It is an honor to not only share the gift of music with our students but also share God’s love with them and watch their faith grow. One of the things I love most about Freedom Academy is the way we encourage our students to deepen their walk with Christ and develop a personal, lasting faith.

I am looking forward to another amazing school year alongside the best students, families, and coworkers. Here’s to a wonderful year of learning, growing, making music, and praising God together! 🎶

This morning, our Freedom family came together for our annual prayer walk around our school. 🩵 It was a special time to pause, pray, and prepare our hearts for the new school year ahead.

We are so thankful for a community that believes in the power of prayer. As we begin another school year, we invite you to join us in covering our students, staff, families, and community in prayer. May this year be filled with God’s guidance, protection, wisdom, and grace. 🙏

Ms. Natalie Herrera is a joyful and magnetic presence who is a true blessing to our students, staff, and Freedom Family. As our K–5 Spanish and Art teacher, she brings creativity, energy, and purpose into the classroom while consistently pointing students back to Jesus. We are so thankful the Lord brought her to Freedom Academy!

Hello, Freedom Family!!

My name is Natalie Herrera, and I grew up in Eden. I am the Spanish and Art teacher for K–5. This year will be my second year with Freedom Academy, and I can’t describe what a blessing being a part of the Freedom Family has been in my life. I am truly so thankful for the opportunity to teach here!

I am currently enrolled at Judson College at SEBTS, pursuing an Interdisciplinary Degree in Women’s Ministry and Missions. My greatest passion in life is to share Jesus with everyone I can. Freedom Academy allows me to do that daily, and I don’t take that lightly. I love sharing how we can honor and glorify God through learning new things (i.e., languages) or through the use of our gifts and talents. Our God truly is the greatest Artist, and we witness it all over the world!!

Things that bring me joy besides teaching are mission trips, long walks with friends, traveling and trying new foods, ice cream, baking, and watercolor painting!

I can’t wait to get to work with all of your kiddos this coming year and watch them grow throughout the year!!

We are excited to reintroduce Dana Hensley, our Academic Enrichment Specialist! Dana is a gifted and highly respected educator who has a wonderful ability to meet students right where they are, helping them grow in confidence while enriching and challenging their learning. We feel incredibly blessed that the Lord has led her to serve our students and families at Freedom Academy.

Hello, Freedom Families!

My name is Dana Hensley, and I am blessed to serve as the Academic Enrichment Specialist at Freedom Academy.

My husband, Alan, and I have been married for almost 30 years, and we are the proud parents of two wonderful adult daughters, Madelyn and Sophie. Being a wife and mom brings so much joy to my life. We are members of Osborne Baptist Church in Eden, where we have found a loving church family that continually encourages and supports us in our walk with Christ.

Outside of school, you’ll most likely find me spending time outdoors with our family’s two fur babies, Bay and Ollie, or planning our next travel adventure. I love making memories with my family and exploring new places together.

God graciously opened the door for me to come to Freedom Academy after retiring from a career in public education. I do not take for granted the opportunity to educate young minds, but even more importantly, the privilege of pouring the love of Jesus into the lives of my students each day. It is an incredible blessing to encourage them academically while helping them grow in their faith and character.

I am honored to be part of the Freedom Academy family and look forward to partnering with our students and parents this school year. I cannot wait to see how God will work in and through our school community as we learn, grow, and serve together.

We are thrilled to reintroduce another member of our High School dream team, the incredible Jennifer Rash, to our Freedom Academy family! Known for her unmatched spirit, amazing baking skills, and wealth of knowledge, Mrs. Rash is a favorite among students and an inspiration to everyone around her.

We couldn’t be more excited to have her back, bringing her passion for education, her faith, and her enthusiasm to our school community.

Hello, Freedom Family!

It’s hard to believe this will be my third year at Freedom Academy! What started as an unexpected new chapter has become such a meaningful part of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the way God led me here.

I was born and raised right here in Rockingham County and graduated from Reidsville High School in 1991. I married my high school sweetheart in 1996, and together we have two wonderful children. Our daughter, Katie, is an NC State graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, and our son, Andrew, is studying psychology at NC State with hopes of becoming a psychologist. Needless to say, we are a proud Wolfpack family!

When I’m not at school, you’ll usually find me doing something I love, like cooking or baking, painting, line dancing, reading, or relaxing with a good Netflix series. I enjoy anything that allows me to be creative, learn something new, or simply spend time with family and friends.

My teaching career began in 1995 at Rockingham County High School after I earned my degree in history and social studies education from UNC Greensboro. During my years at RCHS, I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year for the 2002 to 2003 school year. That same year, I completed my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and became a National Board Certified Teacher. In 2017, I earned my AIG licensure through Duke University. After many years in the classroom, I transitioned into an instructional coach role in 2016 while continuing to call RCHS my home base.

Coming to Freedom after so many years in public education was certainly a leap of faith, but now, as I begin my third year, I can honestly say it has been one of the greatest blessings of my career. Freedom has allowed me to teach, grow, build relationships, and most importantly, share my faith and values with students each day.

I’m thankful for the wonderful people who have welcomed me, the students who continue to challenge and inspire me, and the friendships that have made Freedom feel like home. I’m looking forward to another year of learning, laughter, growth, and making memories together!

Another member of our elite high school team of educators is Mrs. Sandee Key. Sandee’s teaching ability is unparalleled. Coupled with her devout faith in our Lord and Savior, she is the perfect fit for Freedom Academy.

Hello, Freedom Families!

My name is Sandee Key, and I am so excited to be heading into my third year at Freedom Academy as a high school teacher!

I was born and currently live in Rockingham County. I graduated from RCHS and then attended ASU, where I earned my BSBA in Accounting. I worked with an accounting firm for about four years but felt God calling me into teaching. I attended UNCG to earn my bachelor’s degree in Secondary Math Education and N.C. A&T for my master’s degree in Math Education.

I taught middle and high school math in Guilford County for about seven years before moving to RCC, where I taught for 20 years. I am a member of Osborne Baptist Church, where I serve as a small group leader in our Collide High School and Preschool programs. I love serving others and showing them just how much God loves them.

I have a family of seven—my husband, John, my high school sweetheart and husband of 32 years, who is a retired physical education and health teacher; our three wonderful daughters, Carson, Taylor, and Liza; and our two sons-in-law, Gavin and Connor. I am so thankful for my sweet family!

I love teaching and am incredibly thankful for the blessing of Freedom Academy! I am excited to be teaching math this year, to be part of our growing high school, and to see God’s plan for Freedom Academy continue to unfold!

Moving right along to high school, we are thrilled to reintroduce Mrs. Jennifer Jones!

Mrs. Jones is truly one of a kind. She is loving, passionate, and deeply committed to shaping the hearts and minds of the next generation. She brings excellence into the classroom while keeping Christ at the center of all she does. We are so thankful to have her as part of our Freedom Academy family!

Hello, Freedom Family!

My name is Jennifer Jones, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin my second year at Freedom Academy.

This year will be my thirty-first year in the classroom. I’ve had the privilege of teaching everything from middle school English to English I, II, III, and IB Literature at Reidsville High School. The best year of my career was last year, when I joined Freedom Academy.

I grew up on a farm in Wilson County and have been involved in church my entire life. I started teaching Sunday school as a teenager, but my love for ministry began even earlier through music. From singing my first duet with my father at four years old to singing in quartets and choirs, playing handbells, and now serving on the praise team, worship through music is one of the greatest joys.

My husband, Jon, and I recently celebrated our thirty-first wedding anniversary. He is an operations support manager for a construction company, and we have two wonderful adult sons, Ben and Noah. We’ve lived in Reidsville our entire married life, and our very first home was on the land where the new Freedom Academy will soon stand, a reminder of how God faithfully works in our lives.

We are longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church, where I serve as WMU Director, play handbells, and sing and play keyboard on the praise team. Through the years, I’ve also enjoyed teaching Sunday school, directing Christmas plays, and working with children and youth.

When I’m not teaching, I love traveling, reading, gardening, making music, and cooking. I play the piano and guitar, and I enjoy recreating favorite dishes inspired by our travels.

I adore Freedom Academy. It is a joy to teach English while also sharing the love of Jesus and connecting the history of the Bible with our study of Scripture. Every day, I’m encouraged by a school that puts God first, begins each morning in worship, and focuses on teaching the whole child. Seeing students arrive excited to learn is inspiring, and working alongside dedicated, Christian educators is a blessing. I’m so thankful to be part of the Freedom family, and I look forward to all God has in store for this year.
