Timeless Tides Kayaking Local Guide/Instructor I'm a senior (79) kayaking enthusiast. Canoed the Potomac river and tributaries from 1989 till 2014 when retiring to the Delaware shore.

Began my water adventures in 1960, snorkeling and scuba diving in Florida, California, Thailand and Mexico. I began my love affair with recreational kayaking. I've posted group invites on the group "Delaware Kayaking" where I'm an All-Star Contributor.

I've been remiss in keeping this page up to date. Effectively marketing my skills has required more than I anticipated. I still teach and guide tours but much of the summer was focused on volunteer work organizing stream cleanup work parties and personal handyman jobs.

With prime kayaking season upon us, I hope to bring my attention back here so I can be more available for paddling lessons and tours. As always, I promptly respond to requests. Best to call or text directly to my cell #301-977-7888.

Fifteen kayakers made the canal paddle a wonderful experience. We saw blue herons, flocks of glossy ibis, snowy egrets with breeding plumage, a pair of green herons, and tons of fiddler crabs scurrying around the low tide exposed mud flats.
Some of us topped off the paddle with lunch at Irish Eyes. I hope to see you all again this season.

Group invite for Lewes-Rehoboth canal Monday, 20 July, 9am launch from ramp near the Overfalls lightship in Lewes.
Lewes breakwater low tide is at 7:59am, so we'll have a near slack and following tide with us all the way to take out at Oyster House RD. Temperature is forecast mid to high 70's, wind easterly at 7-9mph.
I can stage one vehicle at the take out to serve as a shuttle for three additional kayakers. As people sign on we may need backup. Some may want to continue on to Tower Rd bayside beach or Mulberry Knoll.
Note: Smoke from Canadian and midwest wildfires may deteriorate air quality to a point at which we may want to consider cancelling. I will update Saturday evening, both shuttle needs and AQ decision.
It's roughly eight miles to the scheduled take out or 11 miles to Tower rd. or Mulberry Knoll for experienced paddlers who have arranged transportation.

A word about canal safety and boat etiquette. Wearing your PFD at all times is required. BringLots of pleasure craft use the canal during the season, weekdays less so, but always give way to power boats. They're travelling the middle, so paddling along a bank is sensible, besides that's where most of the action is anyway.

There's no fee for this paddle. Tips cheerfully accepted!

Sunday's guided tour showing Jean G. out of Mulberry Knoll public fishing launch site. We paddled up Arnell creek, saw lots of birds, snowy egrets, laughing gulls, terns and a young osprey hanging out in it's nest. A few terrapins popped their heads up but we're too shy to get a closer look.

Milestone! Today marks the beginning of teaching private lessons. My "student" had previous experience canoeing and picked up handling a kayak paddle right away. She learned how to safely and easily get in and out of the Pungo 120, tuned up paddle strokes and edging her kayak, learned basic tips on buying gear and loading a kayak on an SUV. To top it off we both enjoyed ideal weather on Rehoboth Bay!

Yesterday on Rehoboth Bay, a three hour paddle in and around the salt marsh where thousands of laughing gulls, snowy egrets and various other shorebirds are nesting. I'll be going out again on Sunday, May 31st. Contact me if you'd like a guided tour. The full 3hr paddle costs $90. Add $30 if you need a kayak and gear. Launching at 9am. Weather forecast is for a beautiful, calm day.

The question often comes up on social media kayaking sites "I've long been interested in kayaking but don't know how to get started".
Answers vary along the lines of "rent a kayak they'll show you the basics, kayak shops often have demo days where you can try out kayaks, or, buy a used one on Marketplace you'll figure it out".
While each of thise suggestions are options that at least get you on the water, none are as efficient and cost-effective as engaging an experienced kayaker who will give you their undivided attention for a few sessions. I'll take you through an introduction that touches on everything you need to know to begin your adventure with recreational kayaking.

Launching from Savages Ditch, this guided eco-tour explores the marshlands containing abundant shorebirds and other wildlife as well as abandoned fishing shacks. There's also an oyster farm midway. The route is only accessible around a high tide, so timing our launch will vary day to day.

Trussum pond offers a glimpse into a near primal environment. Only a few feet from the launch you'll feel like you've gone back in time, paddling among bald cypress with great blue herons, turtles galore, possibly sighting otter, fox, kingfishers or it's resident pair of bald eagles. A sign at the launch "no motors allowed", ensures a most peaceful and serene experience.
