Eastern Football is excited to announce a new tradition that will begin with our home opener on August 30, 2024.
The football program has 10 focused goals and goal number 8 states: “Honor the history of the program.”
The last couple of years we have shared a printed history of the football team in the game program. While that will continue, we felt that we wanted to create a tradition that will bring the history of the football program alive and not just on printed paper.
From this point forward, there will be a game designated during each season to host the Eastern Football Honor Game. A previous team will be picked and will be invited back to East Shade River Stadium as the honored guests of the present team. There are three important parts of a football program. The present team, the future in youth football, and the teams from years past. It is our goal to build the future, while honoring the past to make the present as strong as possible!
For the inaugural year our goal is to make the honor game a large and special event. We have decided to honor our oldest generation of Eagle football players by inviting the years of 1955 through 1960. We also want to invite the perfect undefeated years of 1971 (9-0) and 1981 (10-0). The combination of our oldest Eagles with the undefeated Eagles screams history and tradition!
We are asking the public to please spread the word to the football players of 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960 along with 1971 and 1981. Please register with Coach Jason Jackson 304-532-0231, Principal Garrett Hall, or athletic director Brock Stewart both at the school. There will be a pre-game event for the players and their families. The honor players will lead the 2024 Eagles in the Eagle Walk before kickoff!
An added bonus! The 2024 Eagles will be wearing throwback uniforms highlighting the original school colors of Green and Gold! The pants are patterned off the teams in the 1950’s with a single gold stripe. The jerseys are patterned off the later years with gold block EASTERN letters on the chest, and gold and white trim on the shoulders!
A note of gratitude toward Zides’s sport shop in helping us try to match the original uniforms. It was a tough process to try and make them exactly like they were with today’s colors and manufacturing processes. We are very excited to honor all of you! Everyone get ready, a bunch of Eagles are making a flight home in 2024!
