I love Carie Ebert Seminars and all of her tools and advice for working with young children.
Speech or articulation therapy looks much different than language therapy. The strategies found below are awesome for speech therapy and are frequently used during my speech sessions!

Language: Unlike articulation concerns, language can sometimes be more difficult to identify.

Receptive Language: that is the language a child understands when spoken to. Receptive language concerns may cause a child difficulty following directions, understanding new concepts, or answering questions.

Expressive Language: that is the language that a child produces when speaking. Expressive language concerns may cause a child to have poor grammar, word order when speaking, or a limited vocabulary.

As an SLP, identifying the cause of the problem for the kiddo helps to shape our approach in therapy.

Did you all know that May is Better Speech and Hearing Month?!?!

I like to take time this month to share about what a School-Based SLP can actually do, although if you're part of this group you probably already have some idea! 😁

ARTICULATION: The most common area of focus in the school is articulation, or speech sound production. These are the actual sounds that your kiddo makes when speaking. Often times when people hear that I'm an SLP they think or say "oh, you help children with their /r/ sound" Though it may not seem like a lot, for a child who is unable to produce their sounds correctly, it can seem like the world. AND, if you've had a kiddo working on /r/, you've seen first hand the excitement and joy tit brings when an accurate production is finally made. It's awesome!

In addition, to impacting your child's ability to be understood, articulation errors can negatively impact early literacy skills, writing, or spelling.

I had such a nice lunch with the W.I.L.L. class. What an amazing group of kids! The laughter was contagious and the food from Luigi's was delicious!

The kids have been enjoying this butterfly activity. Especially when they get to throw the butterflies up at end.

Thanks to Reedsville School District school board! The food from Vincent's Smokehouse Food Truck was delicious and the coffee and ice cream from Terra Verde/Scoops was certainly a sweet treat. It was a great end to our week!
