🚨We're recruiting new Board members — and we'd love your help finding them.

Upward Scholars supports adult immigrants from low-income households in San Mateo County as they pursue their educational and career dreams.

Right now, this work matters more than ever. Neighbors, friends, and family members are facing barriers, uncertainty, and forces that make it harder to succeed. It's time to get meaningfully involved in strengthening our community and making it more equitable for everyone.

We're looking for mission-aligned, engaged people to join our Board of Directors, especially those with experience in:

• Nonprofit or corporate finance
• Contract or employment law
• Fundraising—whether through a PTA, another nonprofit board, professional experience, or simply a willingness to open doors and build relationships

You don't need previous board experience. You do need to care deeply about our community and mission and be ready to contribute your perspective, skills, connections, and about 5 hours per month.

Thinking about joining the Upward Scholars family or returning for another semester? 📣 🎓

Applications for both new and returning students are now open for this Fall!

Before applying, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements:
✅ Be an immigrant, an English learner, an adult, and not a U.S. high school graduate;
✅ Be enrolled at a community college in San Mateo County (Cañada, CSM, Skyline);
✅ Qualify for financial aid or be exempt from college enrollment fees; and
✅ Complete the correct Upward Scholars Application (New or Returning).

New students will also need to attend a virtual orientation.
