Sibling conflicts can be particularly volatile when one or more of them are on the spectrum. The method outlined in this NY Times article is a variant of the practice of Dynamic Communication that RDI advocates, and can do more than just solve the immediate problem, but create conflict resolution skills that will minimize future fights.

Avoid closed ended, rote questions that require no thought and can be answered with a single syllable response. Try using dynamic, open ended questions that prompt your child to exercise their brains and come up with original, thoughtful responses.

As my kids get older, I know I am going to have to work harder and harder to stay engaged with them -- but I know it's going to be worth the work.
