A grant from the Elks National Foundation generates 140 care kits for the homeless put together by the Redwood City Youth Literacy Council. Thank you Elks National Foundation!

The Youth Literacy Council has created Care Kits for the Homeless thanks to a grant from the Elks National Foundation. They will be distributed in the Redwood City Area through St. Vincent de Paul. SVdP provides basic survival necessities, including food, clothing and other survival necessities for the homeless and the precariously housed. Our kits provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, razors, deodorant, books, masks, sanitizer, Kleenex, and more.

The Youth Council helped put on a Super Hero Day at the library on 8/18/19 where we assisted with games, crafts, and activities to about 350 people. We were able to also hand out free books to encourage children to read.

Tired of not knowing how to work your iPhone or iPad? Want to learn new tricks and tips? The Redwood City Youth Literacy Council is offering a free class this Sunday at the Redwood City Main Library Community Room, 1044 Middlefield Rd., from 2:30 - 4:30. We will be having a training session covering many skills, split up by one-on-one sessions where you can work individually with teens to discover new skills. Congrats to Serena who won a Sequoia Award for her work with the Youth for Literacy and Youth Literacy Council. Ryan was also able to attend the event as a past recipient and coordinator of his year's winners.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday October 20th from 3-4:30 at the Redwood City downtown library, as we put on a free Detective/Spy Day at the Library. There will be crafts, activities, a scavenger hunt and a visit from a real police officer. Kids ages 5-12 are welcome in the children’s area at 1044 Middlefield Road, Redwood City.

We're helping out at the Redwood City Library Stuffed Animal sleepover event on September 29th. Drop off your furry friend for an extra special sleepover at the Library. They will spend the night with other furry friends listening to stories, playing games and staying up way past their bedtime! Drop-off Saturday, September 29 10:00am-4:30pm. Pick-up Sunday, September 30 1:00pm. Stay for a group photo at 1:15pm!

This month's Pirate Day program, put on by Youth for Literacy and the Redwood City Library, was a great success. Love of learning was taught through crafts, a treasure map that showed library offerings, and a pirate book. Over 100 families attended!
