The fifth of May

Is not Mexican Independence day.
That t’was September 15, 1810 when
Soldiers fought strong willed men.
Mexicans wanted to keep their own land,
To live free away from
The Spaniards demanding hand.

On the fifth of May in 1862
To their town of Puebla
The Mexicans were true.

Mexican soldiers with swords in their hand
Defeated the French army
Wanting to take over their land.

Against an army twice its size,
The Mexicans proved that planning was wise.
Although better equipped and in fancier dress,
The French were put down to rest.

T’was the 5th of May, 1862
That Mexicans showed all
What they could do.

Viva Mexico!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
