Human history is highlighted by discoveries and inventions that have often made the world better. In a recent interview with Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, we discussed some of the greatest human discoveries!! One of the discoveries that changed the course of medicine was Penicillin, which raised the average life expectancy significantly! Another invention that was extremely important to human progress was the printing press, which allowed knowledge to become more easily accessible to millions! Other fantastic inventions and discoveries included the discovery of electricity, the invention of the automobile, the first computers created, and, a fairly recent one, the invention of the smartphone (this was one of Dr. Tyson’s choice)! This question will be discussed in our interview with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, which will be released soon! Please share your opinion on the topic…

Growing up, mom and dad used to take us to almost every scientific conference they would sign up for. We’ve been to so many meetings!! When we were little, they would take turns attending a talk and keeping an eye on us in the hallways, and when we were a bit grown up and could find our way around, we’d be sitting outside in the hallway reading and doing our homework. This one was in 2016 in Vancouver - one of the best trips ever!! 🚀

Let’s not tell Mariah Carey about this, shall we?

Repost from

Several species of social caterpillars such as this cluster from the Amazon Rainforest can be quite sensitive to sounds as seen in this video from who demonstrates such. Although odd looking, this behavior is thought to actually be a type of defensive maneuver.

Parasitoid wasps and flies are known to take a significant chunk out of caterpillar populations each generation. By sticking together and reacting to vibrations, they are thought to be able ward off the harmful insects. How cool is that!?

Science Talks with The Science Kids 🌎🚀
That’s what we’re calling our series of interviews with awesome people in the field of science and technology. And we are so honored and thrilled that our first guest is Dr. Jim Montgomery, a scientist from Jet Propulsion Lab who’s working on ground and aerial robotic systems, and actually aided in getting the two rovers, Curiosity and Perseverance on Mars!!! 😱🤩

You can listen to the entire conversation on our YouTube channel - link in bio. Please subscribe and let us know what you think! 🔭🌍💚

HAPPY EARTH DAY! 🌍💚🌍💚🌍
Here’s a to a few years ago when we were keynote speakers at the March For Science in Los Angeles. Environmental conservation is not a choice anymore, it’s a primary responsibility and we can’t ignore it. Here are five, easy ways to lessen the negative impacts on our environment TODAY:

🌱Eat a plant-based or at least a plant-predominant diet, reduce meat and dairy

♻️Reduce buying plastic, use reusable bottles, bags and other home items

👕Buy used clothes instead of buying new ones; donate ones you don’t wear anymore

🚎 Use public transportation as much as possible

🌲Support businesses that are conscientious about the environment

We’ve been sooo busy with college and are finding it tough to keep connected with you all here, but we are working on a system and will be sharing a lot of great science content with you all soon! Love you all! Wish us luck on our finals 🤯💪🏽💥

Join us next week as we talk with our favorite scientist, our mom, about the nervous system. This is a sneak peek, but this is nothing compared to what you will learn about the nervous system from her!

Here’s a look at a dying neuron 🧠

Neurons are cells in the nervous system that transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, and gland cells. Though neurons are tiny, they are basic working units of the brain and nervous system! When our neurons die, they are lost forever. Neuron death can be a result of many things. In some cases it can be traumatic injury, environmental toxins, genetic disease, random cause, or through apoptosis (a form of programmed cell death).

Ingenuity helicopter phones home from Mars 02/20/2021

The first mechanical flying object in Marz! Its job is to find if there are flying non-mechanical biological objects on Marz ;) It is going to gather so much data!

Ingenuity helicopter phones home from Mars The Ingenuity helicopter, sidekick and traveling companion to NASA's Perseverance rover, has checked in with a good report and is "operating as expected," according to the agency. It will be the first helicopter to fly on another planet.

One thing we’ve appreciated a LOT during the pandemic is soap 🧼. Soaps and detergents are common and often life-saving items that all of us daily (hopefully), but how do they work exactly? 🤓

Well, soaps and detergents are a mixture of chemicals that are used as a cleansing agent. The way soap cleans is in the
structure of its molecule. In a soap molecule, there is a water-loving
head (a hydrophilic part) and a grease or dirt-loving tail (a hydrophobic
part). When the detergent or soap molecule comes into contact with the
dirty surface, the tail connects to the dirt and grease particles, while
the heads connect to the water molecules. When you massage the soap or detergent between your skin or on clothes, the lather that build up traps the dirt and the act of rising washes it away! This washes bacteria and even viruses!🦠
