“My name is Isela Villanueva (Ms. V), and I am a 9th-grade math teacher at Atlas College Prep in Santa Ana, the newest school in the Ednovate Charter network. We opened our doors on August 4, and this first year has been beyond anything I could have imagined back in 2024, when I tentatively typed “how do I get a teaching credential as an engineer?” into a search bar.
That search led me straight to the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program. After applying and being accepted as a Volunteer Guest Teaching Fellow, I was placed in a 9th-grade Algebra 1 classroom. That single semester with the students confirmed my calling. From there, EnCorps helped me navigate credentialing pathways, offered critical networking and mentorship, and even provided a scholarship toward my credential program.
My goal as an educator is to cultivate a supportive, high-expectation learning environment that fosters critical thinking, real-world connection, and a strong mathematical foundation. As a Latina in STEM who loves math, I hope to inspire the next generation to explore, innovate, and make their own lasting mark on the world.”
