I am often asked about alternative, affordable paths for students after high school. Through my volunteer work with Find Your Fit (through the Lake Washington Schools Foundation), I invite families to join me on Tuesday, March 12th from 7-8 pm for a free Zoom webinar to learn about all that Lake Washington Institute of Technology has to offer. I will be joined by Casey Melnrick of LWIT; we will discuss stackable programs (including direct transfer agreements and bachelor's degrees) offered in computer science, engineering, health science, business, gaming design, and more! LWIT offers hands-on learning and small cohorts at a much more affordable price than traditional 4-year universities. In my opinion, LWIT is a hidden gem in our community. Registration is required. This webinar will be recorded and sent out to everyone who registers.

It is time for my annual public service announcement as we approach the holiday season. Please do not make your senior’s college applications part of the holiday dinner conversations. While some may have heard back from colleges, most have not. Many are still working on their applications. This is a very stressful time for seniors. I know people mean well but if a senior wants to talk about college, let them bring it up. I think this card says it all! Enjoy the holidays, hug your children, and remind your senior (and yourself) that none of this defines them.

Parents of seniors - it's that time of year when your senior may be getting ready to submit their college applications. Students need to remember they can only submit once.
