The ancient Greeks told a story known as the Ship of Theseus.

If a ship sails for years and every plank is eventually replaced, one piece at a time, is it still the same ship?

Years later, Marvel gave us a similar idea when Odin told Thor that Asgard is not a place. Asgard is its people.

Today was Instructor Thomas’s last day at Trinity Martial Arts.

When I think about the Ship of Theseus, I realize that schools, organizations, and communities are much the same. Over time, students come and go. Families move on. Instructors change. Programs evolve. The individual planks are replaced.

Yet somehow, Trinity remains Trinity.

The reason is because people like Instructor Thomas helped build what Trinity is. His knowledge, leadership, patience, humor, and dedication have left fingerprints on thousands of classes, countless students, and an entire generation of martial artists.

While one of the planks of our ship may be moving on to a new adventure, the impact he made remains woven into the culture, traditions, and people of Trinity Martial Arts. The lessons he taught will continue to be passed from instructor to student, from black belt to beginner, for years to come.

Thank you, Instructor Thomas, for everything you have given to Trinity. Your contribution cannot be measured by the classes you taught, but by the lives you helped shape.

Fair winds and following seas, my friend. You will always be part of this ship.

We also want to give a special thank you to the amazing event coordinators at True Martial Arts for hosting such a well-organized and inspiring tournament. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the martial arts community made this event a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

Events like this are about more than medals. They’re about growth, confidence, teamwork, and the courage to try something hard. Watching our students support one another, cheer for their teammates, and push through nerves reminded us why we love what we do every day.
